12/16/202, 4:20PM – Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution!

  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio and central and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN – From 4AM Wednesday to 4AM Thursday.
  • IMPACTS – Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County in effect from 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Isolated areas may receive upwards of 4 inches.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.
  • IMPACTS – Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

ATHENS CO, RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM THU, 11/19/2020, FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, NO OUTDOOR BURNING

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect until 7 PM, Thursday, 11/19/2020.

  • Affected Area – NE Kentucky, SE Ohio
  • Winds – South 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
  • Relative Humidity – As low as 23 percent.
  • Impacts – Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. NO OUTDOOR BURNING!

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
