2020 Nelsonville Rec Youth Baseball and Softball CANCELED Due to COVID-19, sponsors and parents will be reimbursed

Due to the current COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, the City of Nelsonville regrets to announce the cancelation of the 2020 Nelsonville Recreation Youth Baseball and Softball league. Any 2020 league sponsors and parents who have already paid will be reimbursed. We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and dedication to Nelsonville youth.

ATHENS CO FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH 8AM THU, 5/21/2020, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch to include portions of southeast Ohio and West Virginia, including the following areas, in southeast Ohio, Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Vinton and Washington. In West Virginia, Jackson WV, Pleasants, Ritchie, Wirt and Wood.

  • Through Thursday 5/21/2020 at 8AM
  • A slow-moving low-pressure system will produce off and on moderate to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms. The repetitive nature could lead to quick rises on creeks and streams and flooding of low-lying areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to Flash Flooding. Flash Flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

  • Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth.
  • Stay away or be swept away. Riverbanks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.

Nelsonville Finance Committee virtual meeting Mon, 5/18/2020, 7PM, Facebook, City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity

The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a virtual meeting on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting is being held to discuss the city’s finances. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be streamed on the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity).

The Nelsonville City Council announces that the second May Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 7PM due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be live streamed from the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page, (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity). Citizens comments and business and organizational comments may be made to council by Emailing them to councilclerk@cityofnelsonville.com, no later than 12PM Tuesday, May 26, 2020. The public is invited and encouraged to attend virtually online.

Nelsonville Madison St closed, W Franklin St to Cross St, Wed, 5/20/20 and Thu, 5/21/20, 7AM to 6PM, use alternate route

The Nelsonville Water Department announces that Madison Street will be closed from West Franklin Street to Cross Street, Wednesday, May 20, 2020 and Thursday, May 21, 2020.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The north bound lane will be open to area residence. The roadway is being closed for a water valve installation, weather permitting. Please use an alternate route.

Nelsonville water outage and boil order, SR691, Elm Rock Rd, Kimberly Rd, E Canal St “Y” to SR691, Hocking College

The Nelsonville Water Department is currently working on a water main break on East Canal Street. The water service will be off for the following areas until water service is restored and once water service is restored the following areas will be under a boil order. State Route 691, Elm Rock Road, Kimberly Road and East Canal Street from the “Y” to State Route 691and Hocking College.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.
