Athens County Flash Flood Watch, Tue, 8/31/21, 2PM to Wed, 9/1/21, 2PM, watch for rapidly changing weather conditions
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and West Virginia, including Athens County, from Tuesday August 31, 2021, at 2:00PM through Wednesday September 1, 2021, at 2:00PM.
Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Hurricane Ida will impact the area beginning on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected to occur through Wednesday afternoon, with locally higher amounts of up to 6 inches possible. These amounts could result in flash flooding, especially in areas that receive the most intense rainfall.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
Nelsonville street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Fayette St Thu 8/26/21 and Fri 8/27/21, NO PARKING
The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Fayette Street on Thursday August 26, 2021, and Friday August 27, 2021.
- The crack sealing on Thursday August 26, 2021, will be applied on the North side of Fayette Street.
- The crack sealing on Friday August 27, 2021, will be applied on the South side of Fayette Street.
All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. On street parking is not permitted on the side of the street affected while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

The Nelsonville City Council held a special meeting on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 7:00 PM. The purpose of the meeting was to consider adoption of a resolution appointing attorneys of Reminger Co., L.P.A., as special prosecutor to prosecute the pending removal proceedings, as well as any reviews thereof, of councilmember Gregory Smith.

Nelsonville boil order N Harper St/ Walnut to end of N Harper, High St/ Second to N Harper, Ashton Ave, Cherry St
The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for North Harper Street from Walnut Street to the end of North Harper Street, High Street from Second Street to North Harper Street, Ashton Avenue, and Cherry Street. The reason for this Boil Order was to repair a leak on the mainline.
When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.
This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING for Northern Athens Co until 12:30PM, Wed, 8/818/21, seek shelter or higher ground if threatened
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Northern Athens County until 12:30PM, Wednesday, 8/18/2021.
At 6:30 AM, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
- HAZARD, Flash flooding caused by repetitive numerous showers.
- SOURCE, Radar.
- IMPACT, Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, Amesville, Burr Oak State Park and The Plains.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
