The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Athens County Monday, April 13, 2020 from 6AM until 8PM.

  • WHAT – Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, northeast Kentucky and central, northeast, northern, southeast, southern and western West Virginia.
  • WHEN – Monday, April 13, 2020 from 6AM until 8PM.
  • IMPACTS – Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for Athens County for Monday, April 13, 2020 from 6:00AM until 8:00PM.

  • WHAT – Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 58 mph possible.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, northeast Kentucky and central, northeast, northern, southeast, southern and western West Virginia.
  • WHEN – Monday, April 13, 2020 from 6:00AM until 8:00PM.
  • IMPACTS – Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Thunderstorms may also occur during the watch period, with brief enhanced wind gusts.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, April 13, 2020 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. Nelsonville boil order for all of Mill Street, in effect until further notice

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all of Mill Street.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has canceled the boil order for Burr Oak Boulevard from Crihfield Drive to Buchtel, Blair Court, Runyan Drive, Sylvania Avenue, Carbon Hill Buchtel Road from Bessemer Road to Sandy Lane, Sandy Lane, Bessemer Road, Conner Road and The Village of Buchtel.

ATHENS CO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING UNTIL 1AM THU, 4/9/2020, SEEK SHELTER IF THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Athens County until 1:00AM Thursday, 4/9/2020.

At 12:22AM, a line of severe thunderstorms was located just west of warned counties. Another separate severe thunderstorm is northwest of Meigs County. All storms are moving east at 45 mph.

  • HAZARD – 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
  • SOURCE – Radar indicated.
  • IMPACT – Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 4:00AM for southeastern Ohio and western and northwestern West Virginia.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

REMEMBER, A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.  PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

Nelsonville Pleasantview Ave closed, Mon, 4/13/2020 to Fri, 4/17/2020, 7AM to 6PM, follow detour use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Pleasantview Avenue will be closed from Fort Street to Scott Street, Monday, April 13, 2020 and Friday, April 17, 2020.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM. Traffic will be detoured onto Scott Street. Flaggers will be at each end of Scott Street and detour the traffic around Pleasantview Avenue on Scott Street during work hours. Pleasantview Avenue will be open to traffic during non-work hours.

The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.
