Nelsonville Chestnut St closed Thu, 6/18/20, 9AM, E Canal to Burr Oak until Oct, E Canal reopen to traffic

The City of Nelsonville announces that East Canal Street at the Chestnut Street South “Y”, will reopen to traffic Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 9:00AM. At the same time Chestnut Street will be closed from East Canal Street at the South “Y” to Burr Oak Boulevard until October. Access to local residents and business will be maintained. This construction is to install new sanitary sewer lines for the new wastewater treatment plant on Elm Rock Road.

Please use an alternate route when possible and be patient when travelling though the designated work zone.

The City of Nelsonville, Ohio City Council held a virtual meeting Monday, June 15, 2020 at 7PM. The purpose of this meeting is to hold the final round of interviews for City Manager candidates. The interviews will take place during executive session and the final vote will take place in open session. City Council will also consider the following legislation:

  • A Resolution necessary pursuant to House Bill 481
  • Amendments to the 2020 appropriations ordinance
  • Ordinance to adopt water park fees
  • Ordinance declaring 253 Meyers Street dangerous and unsafe

The meeting was streamed on the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity).

We had a hard time hearing City Council, just as everyone else did. City Council returned from executive session at 10:18PM and a motion was made to hire Scott Frank as the permanent City Manager. Council by a 3-4 vote decided to not hire Scott Frank and then City Council adjourned.

Nelsonville Madison St closed W Franklin St to Cross St, Wed, 6/17/2020, 8AM to 4PM, use alternate route

The Nelsonville Water Department announces that Madison Street will be closed from West Franklin Street to Cross Street, Wednesday, June 17, 2020.  The roadway will be closed from 8:00AM until 4:00PM, during these times the water will be turned off to make emergency repairs to a fire hydrant. Once water service is restored, a boil order will be issued to the affected areas. Weather permitting. Please use an alternate route.

Nelsonville Oak and Lancaster St closed Clinton St to Shepherd St, Thu, 6/8/20 to Fr, 6/26/20, 7AM to 6PM weekdays

The City of Nelsonville announces that Oak Street and Lancaster Street will be closed from Clinton Street to Shepherd Street, Thursday, June 18, 2020 through Friday, June 26, 2020.  The roadway will be closed weekdays only from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.

NW Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8PM Wed, 6/10/2020. Take shelter if threatening weather approaches!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Athens County Until 800 PM.

At 643 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 9 miles southwest of Lancaster to near Piketon to 6 miles east of Rome, moving northeast at 60 mph.

HAZARD, 60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE, Radar indicated.

IMPACT, Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, and Buchtel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately.

Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

If on or near a lake or river, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!  Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
