ATHENS CO WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FROM 4 PM MON, 11/30/2020 TO NOON, TUE, 12/1/2020, HAZARDOUS SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County in effect from 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Isolated areas may receive upwards of 4 inches.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.
  • IMPACTS – Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS;
Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Nelsonville boil advisory 15460 SR691 to Kimberly RD, Kimberly RD, SR691 to Wolfe Bennett RD, until 6PM, Tue, 12/1/2020

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil advisory 15460 State Route 691 to Kimberly Road, and Kimberly Road from State Route 691 to Wolfe Bennett Road. The boil advisory is being issued due to a water line repair. The boil advisory will be in effect until Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 6:00PM, unless notified otherwise.

When a boil advisory is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

One Day Service Delay for Thursday & Friday Customers

Rumpke service will be delayed one day for Thursday and Friday customers, the week of November 23. Please place trash and recycling at the curb the night before your scheduled collection.

Thanksgiving Clean-up Tips:

  • Reminder: Rumpke cannot accept liquids. To dispose of cooking oil and grease:
    • Let the oil and grease cool and solidify (use kitty litter or other solidifying agents as needed)
    • Once cool and solid, scrape the grease and place it in a container that can be discarded
  • No food waste in recycling.
  • As your online orders start coming in, break down cardboard boxes before placing in carts or community drop boxes.

Nelsonville boil order for all Nelsonville Water customers on Sandy Lane until further notice, due to a leak repair

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all Nelsonville Water customers on Sandy Lane until further notice.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

City of Nelsonville takes actions to help mitigate COVID-19 cases increasing in State and region

Due to increasing cases of COVID-19 in Athens County and Ohio, the City of Nelsonville is modifying City operations to mitigate the spread of the virus. The City will continue to conduct business as usual but the Nelsonville City building and complex will be closed to the public except by appointment or emergency, we ask that our residents contact us via telephone, or e-mail, to keep any exposure to a minimum. Nelsonville Public Safety departments will continue to provide services.

All City Services will continue to operate and care for the citizens of Nelsonville but are taking extra precautions to keep you AND them safe. This includes:

  • Staff is regularly disinfecting all common gathering spaces, doors, counters, meeting rooms and City vehicles and practicing social distancing.
  • Extra caution is being taken by emergency services when interacting with the public.
  • Limiting or cancelling large City-Sponsored events, in order to maintain a limit of no more than ten (10) people.
  • Requesting that all City Water/Sewer bills be paid by using our online bill paying service if possible, (www.cityofnelsonville.com). If not, bills can be paid by personal check, bank check or money order mailed to the City or by using our drop box located in the parking lot.

Additional measures will be taken as the situation develops. The City stands ready to continue to support the citizens of Nelsonville.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, November 23, 2020 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. Citizens comments and business and organizational comments may be made online. The public is invited and encouraged to attend virtually online.
