Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Athens County from 7pm, Wednesday, 2/14/18 until 7PM, Friday, 2/16/18.

A complex storm system has the potential to produce between 1 to 3 inches of rain from Wednesday evening through Friday evening. With the ground being saturated from previous rains, coupled with streams and rivers running high, this rain has the potential to cause flooding throughout the area.

Flooded roadways are a possibility, especially along streams, creeks and rivers. Flooding of Low lying, poor drainage areas, streams, creeks and rivers are possible.

All rivers in the watch area will see significant rises and could exceed flood stage.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.
