The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Athens County until 10:00 PM, Saturday, 2/17/18.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving. Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY. Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.

The City of Nelsonville Parks and Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 6:00PM in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss parks and recreation plans for 2018. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Small Streams in Athens County until 12:45 PM, Friday, 2/16/18.
At 648 AM, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will cause flooding. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
