The City of Nelsonville Civil Service Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 5:15PM, at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss the scheduling of upcoming police officer and firefighter tests.

The Nelsonville Police Department is accepting applications to create an eligibility list for potential future hires. Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, January 25, 2022, until 3:00PM on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution!

Since there was some concern why we made a post to remind residents to shovel the snow from their sidewalks we decided to make a video to demonstrate why we made the post. Remember, the City of Nelsonville does not want to write a citation to any one for violating the code, we only want the sidewalks safe for all pedestrians walking around town. Thank you!

Yes, the sidewalk snow regulations affect all home, business and property owners in Nelsonville. Business owners that rent space adjacent to sidewalks are responsible for shoveling snow under the ordinance. Some landlords for residential and commercial property hold tenants responsible for snow clearance as a part of their lease agreement, others do not. Renters who are not certain of their shoveling responsibilities should check their rental agreements or ask their landlords for clarification.
It is recommended that you shovel snow as soon as possible after it falls. You must shovel and remove all snow and ice accumulated within a reasonable time, which will ordinarily not exceed twelve (12) hours, after the end of any storm.

Yes, you can receive a citation for failure to shovel. Violation of this ordinance is a minor misdemeanor, and if the offender has previously been convicted of a violation of this section, the offender shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.
Each day this section is violated shall constitute a separate offense.
