Hocking Pkwy at SR 691 CLOSED 4 days starting Wed, 11/20/13 for SR 691 re-alignment. Please avoid this area

The City of Nelsonville announces that Hocking Parkway at State Route 691 will be closed for (4) four days starting Wednesday, November 20, 2013. The roadway is being closed to complete work that is needed to tie Hocking Parkway into the new State Route 691 alignment. Traffic for Hocking College will need to use the Northern entrance into Hocking College during this closure. Travelers are asked to avoid traveling in this area. This road closure time period is subject to weather delays and may be extended if needed.

Elm Rock Road, York Township Road 36 will be closed from old US 33 to Lang Road, York Township Road 1042 for 14 days starting Tuesday, November 12, 2013. The roadway is being closed so that the road can be realigned to fit the new US Route 33 foot print. Please avoid the area.

Phase III – Jefferson/Watkins St Project starts Mon, 10/28/13. Jefferson St, Columbus St to Washington St CLOSED

The City of Nelsonville announces Phase III of the Jefferson/Watkins Street Project will begin on Monday, October 28, 2013. Street closures will be Jefferson Street from Columbus Street to Washington Street . Residents on Terrace and ME Street will detour on the alley between Columbus and Washington during construction. Phase II will remain closed to traffic.

The City of Nelsonville announces that the Historic Public Square will be closed beginning at 11:00AM on Friday, October 25, 2013, for the Final Friday event. A Hay Ride will be included in the event from 5:30PM to 8:00PM that will run on Washington and Columbus Streets between Jefferson Street and the first alley before SR278. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving through the downtown area.

The Nelsonville Street Department announces that Harper Street will be closed to thru traffic from Poplar Street to Chestnut Street on Saturday, October 19, 2013, from 11:00AM to 3:00PM for the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church Fall Fellowship event. There will also be horse drawn hay rides on Chestnut Street to DeSteiguer Street , down DeSteiguer to Poplar Street , down Poplar to Second Street , down Second to Chestnut Street . Drivers are encouraged to use caution while driving through the area.

The City of Nelsonville announces that the following streets will be closed to traffic for this weekend’s Ohio Smoked Meat & BBQ Festival beginning at 8:00AM on Friday, October 18, 2013, continuing to 5:00PM on Saturday, October 19, 2013. The Historic Public Square, Rocky Boots Way from Columbus Street to Canal Street, West Columbus Street from September Street to Rocky Boots Way and Fayette Street from Rocky Boots Way to Valkinburg Alley. Drivers are urged to use caution while driving in the downtown area due to the number of visitors for the festival.

US Route 33 Nelsonville Bypass Opening Ceremony 10/1/13 at 9:30 AM

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 10 has announced that the official opening ceremony for the newly constructed US route 33 will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 9:30 AM. The opening ceremony will be held at the new State Route 78/ State Route 691 interchange and is open to the public. Persons wishing to attend the ceremony can access the area via the new State Route 691 access road off of old route 33 Southeast of Nelsonville.

Once the opening ceremony is complete ODOT hopes to have the new West bound lanes of US route 33 open by 12 noon. The new East bound lanes should be opened by 3:00 PM. Traffic on the new US route 33 will be down to a two lane roadway at the Elm Rock Road overpass Southeast of Nelsonville while construction crews complete the final transition away from the old roadway.

Persons traveling the new US route 33 corridor through the Nelsonville area should use caution do to numerous traffic pattern changes.
