Law Enforcement Search for Escapee from SEPTA Correctional Facility, located at 7 West 29 Drive Nelsonville, Ohio

On May 31, 2017, SEPTA Correctional Facility reported that Richard Paul Rush III escaped from the facility.

Richard Paul Rush III;

  • 24-year-old male
  • 5 foot 6 inches
  • 155 pounds
  • blonde hair and blue eyes
  • last seen wearing a brown T-shirt, with blue jeans

Richard Rush was incarcerated for a Third-Degree Felony for drug possession.

If you see Richard Rush, please do not approach, and contact your local Law Enforcement Agency.

Persons with any information on the whereabouts of the escapee can be called into the Nelsonville Police Department at (740) 753-1736.

Flash Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for West central Athens County Until 11:15 PM.

At 8:09 PM, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing very heavy rain across the warned area, with little movement. These storms are expected to continue through 9 PM before diminishing. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Chauncey, Amesville and The Plains.

The following incidents has been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as June, 2017 Crimes of the Month.

The Athens Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to several criminal acts which occurred within the City.  

1. Breaking and Entries.

On March 21, 2017 between 2:00 and 4:00 AM, an unknown black male forcibly entered the Ginger Asian Kitchen, located at 28 S. Court St.  Once inside, the male was able to steal a large amount of money and an Apple iPad.

On March 28, 2017 at 2:15 AM, the business of Stewart-MacDonald located at 21 N. Shafer St was forcibly entered. The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

Between April 14 at 11:00 PM and April 15, 2017 at 7:30 AM, the El Camino restaurant located at 1017 E. State St. was forcibly entered. The suspect(s) stole an undisclosed amount of money.

On April 20, 2017 between 12:30 AM and 9:00 AM, the Gran Ranchero restaurant located at 979 E. State St was forcibly entered. The suspect(s) stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Between April 26 at 8:15 AM and April 27, 2017 at 8:00 AM, the West Side Wingery located at 9 N. Shafer St was forcibly entered. The suspect(s) stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Between May 13 at 11:00 PM and May 14, 2017 at 11:30 AM, China Fortune located at 20 W. Stimson Ave was forcibly entered. The suspect(s) stole an undisclosed amount of money.

On or about May 16, 2017, suspect(s) forcibly entered the concession stand located at the Jaycee Fields (W. State St. ball fields’ area). The stand is operated by the Athens Sandlot Baseball and Softball league.  An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

On May 17, 2017 at 3:40 AM, McHappy’s Bake Shop located at 485 Richland Ave was forcibly entered. The male suspect (see attached image) gained entry but did not steal anything of value.

  1. Stolen motor vehicles

On May 19, 2017 between 1:45 AM and 8:00 AM, unknown person(s) stole a yellow 2004 Mazda 3 from Franklin Ave. Two days later the vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, in The Plains, Ohio.

On May 21, to the following day, May 22, unknown person(s) stole a silver 2008 Honda Pilot from Elmwood Pl. This vehicle is yet to be recovered.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles, not to store any valuables inside them, and definitely do not leave the ignition keys inside.

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a $2,000.00 cash reward for information on the above crimes if that information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible. *Information on serious misdemeanors will be limited to a $1000.00 cash reward.  **Any information that leads to the arrest of an individual responsible for graffiti, the board can authorize up to a $500.00 cash reward. The Nelsonville Police Department will be changing their non-emergency telephone system on June 1, 2017.

The non-emergency 740-753-1922 and 740-75-1736 will no longer ring into Athens County 9-1-1. These telephone numbers will only ring directly into the Nelsonville Police Station.  Since the numbers are only ringing into the police station callers may be connected with an answering machine when officers are on calls.  The 740-753-1922 and 740-753-1736 telephone numbers should only be used for NON-EMERGENCY CALLS;

  • Information regarding ongoing investigations
  • Requests for police reports

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Athens County Until 715 PM, Friday 5/19/17.

HAZARD, 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE, Radar indicated.

IMPACT, Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
