Nelsonville Destiguer St closed, E Canal to Patton, 7AM to 6PM daily, Mon, 8/11/22, to Fri, 8/5/22, avoid area, use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Destiguer Street from East Canal Street to Patton Street will be closed to traffic daily from Monday, August 1, 2022, until Friday, August 5, 2022, 7:00AM until 6:00PM. The roadway is being closed to replace natural gas lines as part of the natural gas line replacement project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville City Council special meeting Mon, 8/1/22, 6:30PM, City Hall, the public is invited and encouraged to attend

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 6:30 PM, at City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and vote on special audit findings. Discuss and vote on Baird Brothers Foundation donation legislation and appropriations.

Nelsonville John Lloyd Evans Memorial Dr REOPENED, including, both US Rte 33 exit ramps and roundabout

The Nelsonville Fire Department has reopened John Lloyd Evans Memorial Drive, from and including, both East and West bound US Route 33 exit #182 ramps to and including the roundabout at West Washington Street after containing a diesel fuel spill. A private cleanup contractor will be working in the area removing the diesel fuel spill cleanup agent. Please drive with caution in the area try to avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville John Lloyd Evans Memorial Dr CLOSED, including, both US Rte 33 exit ramps and roundabout due to a diesel fuel spill

The Nelsonville Fire Department has closed John Lloyd Evans Memorial Drive, from and including, both East and West bound US Route 33 exit #182 ramps to and including the roundabout at West Washington Street due to a diesel fuel spill. Firefighters are currently working on the roadway removing the diesel fuel spill to make it safe for vehicles to travel. Access to the Ohio Health Urgent Care Center will be maintained. Please follow the directions of public safety forces and avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Athens County Heat Advisory for Sun, 7/24/22, 12PM until 8PM, heat index values up to the lower 100s expected, use caution

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Athens County in effect from Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 12:00 PM until Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 8:00 PM.

*WHAT…Heat index values up to the lower 100s expected.

* WHERE…Portions of southeast Ohio, northeast Kentucky and central, northern, southern and western West Virginia.

* WHEN… Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

* IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Unlike Saturday, the heat is not likely to be interrupted by thunderstorms today.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until Sat. 7/23/22, 2:30PM, seek shelter if threatening weather approaches!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Athens County until 2:30 PM. At 1:46 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Albany, moving east at 35 mph.

  HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

  SOURCE…Radar indicated.

  IMPACT…Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include… Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Coolville, Chauncey, and Buchtel.

Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
