Nelsonville water line repairs complete, full depressurization will take 4hrs, Boil Order in effect until further notice

The City of Nelsonville has completed repairs on a 10-inch water main break located at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Fayette Street. The City is in the process of repressurizing the water system. Full depressurization of the water system will take approximately 4 hours to complete. A boil order will be in effect until further notice for all Nelsonville water customers including the Village of Buchtel.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

The City of Nelsonville is currently working on a 10-inch water main break located at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Fayette Street. The repair will require that the City’s water system be shut off until the water line is repaired. This water outage will affect all Nelsonville water customers including the Village of Buchtel. A boil order will be in effect until further notice for all Nelsonville water customers.

ATHENS CO FLOOD WARNING UNTIL 5PM, SUN, 2/28/2021, FLOODING IS ON GOING, TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a FLOOD WARNING for Athens County Until 5:00 PM, Sunday, 2/28/2021.

At 11:24 AM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain occurring across the area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen and water levels will rise throughout this afternoon.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, and Albany.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.

The City of Nelsonville Planning and Development Committee virtual meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, March 1, 2021 at 6:00PM. The meeting is being held to discuss camping in the City, trash cans, all-terrain vehicle, (ATV) use in the City.
