Nelsonville hosting free pop-up COVID-19 community testing Tue, 12/15/2020, 10AM to 2PM, Nelsonville/ York High School

The City of Nelsonville will be hosting a free pop-up COVID-19 community testing event in partnership with Athens City/ County Health Department and the State of Ohio on Tuesday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nelsonville/ York High School, 1 Buckeye Drive in Nelsonville.

Additional Information:

  • There are no criteria for testing and the event is open to anyone ages 2+.
  • Children 17 and under must have a guardian present.
  • You do NOT need to bring an insurance card.
  • Testing will be performed by the Ohio National Guard.
  • Walkers and bicyclists welcome.
  • Depending on volume, please expect delays.
  • Testing stations will be clearly marked on-site.
  • Masks are required, no-smoking please.
  • There will be an express lane for those with their forms already filled out. The forms will be available online soon. Please print clearly!

The Athens City/ County Health Department with follow up with all positive tests from people who reside in Athens County, as they do with all local positive COVID-19 tests. Anyone who tests positive but lives outside of Athens County will get contacted by their local health department.

Testing for COVID-19 is critical to helping stop the spread of this virus. It saves lives. When we’re able to test more individuals in a community it allows us to quickly identify infected individuals and isolate them. In that way, it helps us contain and decrease the spread of illness so we can go on the offense against this virus.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, December 14, 2020 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be live streamed from the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page, (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity). Citizens comments and business and organizational comments may be made online. The public is invited and encouraged to attend virtually online.

Technicians are working on the problem and hope to have the issue corrected soon. The outage DOES NOT affect emergency telephone lines. The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a virtual meeting on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting is being held to discuss City finances and the 2021 City budget. ATHENS CO WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FROM 4 PM MON, 11/30/2020 TO NOON, TUE, 12/1/2020, HAZARDOUS SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County in effect from 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Isolated areas may receive upwards of 4 inches.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 4:00 PM Monday, 11/30/2020 until 12 noon, Tuesday, 12/1/2020.
  • IMPACTS – Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
