ATHENS CO WINTER STORM WATCH FROM 1AM, MON, 2/15/21 UNTIL 1PM, TUE, 2/16/21, POSSIBLE HEAVY MIXED PRECIPITATION

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for Athens County from 1:00AM, Monday, 2/15/2021 until 1:00PM, Tuesday, 2/16/2021.

  • WHAT – Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch possible.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio, northeast Kentucky and central, northern, southern and western West Virginia.
  • WHEN – From 1:00AM, Monday, 2/15/2021 until 1:00PM, Tuesday, 2/16/2021.
  • IMPACTS – Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

The City of Nelsonville, City Council will hold a virtual public hearing on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 7:00PM. The public hearing is being held to review, and accept evidence on council member Greg Smith, regarding section 11.08 of the Nelsonville City Charter.

The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be streamed on the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity).

The City of Nelsonville announces that due to the snow conditions Rumpke Waste and Recycling is unable to complete trash pickup today Thursday, February 11, 2021 for the following locations in the City,

  • Poling Avenue
  • Frank Street
  • William Street
  • Fairview Street
  • Alley between Fort Street and Elizabeth Street
  • 25 Koker Lane

The missed areas will receive trash pickup service Friday, February 12, 2021. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County from 12 noon, Wednesday 2/10/2021 until 7:00 AM Friday, 2/12/2021.

  • WHAT – Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
  • WHERE – In Ohio, Athens, Washington and Meigs Counties. In West Virginia, Wood and Pleasants Counties.
  • WHEN – From noon today to 7 AM  Friday.
  • IMPACTS – Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Periods of wintry precipitation are expected over the next couple of days. This will result in hazardous travel conditions are times.
