The Nelsonville City Council held a special meeting on Monday, September 2, 2021, at 6:30 PM. Pursuant to Section 11.08 of the Nelsonville City Charter, the City Council held a public hearing, for the purpose of holding, under Sections 4.02 and 11.08(B)(1) of the Nelsonville City Charter, the removal proceedings of councilmember Gregory Smith.

Nelsonville performing crack sealing Tue, 9/7/21, to Mon, 9/13/21, Columbus St, Public SQ, Rocky Boot Way, 7AM-3:30PM

The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, through Monday, September 13, 2021, on the following streets.

  • Tuesday, September 7, 2021 – Columbus Street from West Canal Street at the “Y” to The First National Drive thru (drive thru will be open), Madison Street will remain open
  • Wednesday, September 8, 2021 – Columbus Street from Rocky Boot Way (Dew House) to Jefferson Street
  • Thursday, September 9, 2021 – Columbus Street from The First National drive thru to Rocky Boot Way and the Public Square
  • Monday, September 13, 2021 – Rocky Boot Way

All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. Streets may reopen sooner as the sealing product dries. On street parking is not permitted while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

The City of Nelsonville is looking for community input on the City’s upcoming 2021Trick-or-Treat date. Nelsonville residents can take an anonymous (2) two question online survey to give their input on this issue. Nelsonville residents can go to https://tinyurl.com/4x2vupua, to complete the survey. A scannable QR code has also been provided so that the survey can be accessed on your cellphone. The survey can also be accessed at the City’s website http://www.cityofnelsonville.com.

The City of Nelsonville will use the input received to schedule the 2021 Nelsonville Trick-or-Treat. The online survey will be available until 12 noon, Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Athens County Flash Flood Watch, Tue, 8/31/21, 2PM to Wed, 9/1/21, 2PM, watch for rapidly changing weather conditions

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and West Virginia, including Athens County, from Tuesday August 31, 2021, at 2:00PM through Wednesday September 1, 2021, at 2:00PM.

Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Hurricane Ida will impact the area beginning on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected to occur through Wednesday afternoon, with locally higher amounts of up to 6 inches possible. These amounts could result in flash flooding, especially in areas that receive the most intense rainfall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS,

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Fayette Street on Thursday August 26, 2021, and Friday August 27, 2021.

  • The crack sealing on Thursday August 26, 2021, will be applied on the North side of Fayette Street.
  • The crack sealing on Friday August 27, 2021, will be applied on the South side of Fayette Street.

All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. On street parking is not permitted on the side of the street affected while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

The Nelsonville City Council held a special meeting on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 7:00 PM. The purpose of the meeting was to consider adoption of a resolution appointing attorneys of Reminger Co., L.P.A., as special prosecutor to prosecute the pending removal proceedings, as well as any reviews thereof, of councilmember Gregory Smith.
