Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Watch until Sat, 7/23/22 at 6PM, stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens County in effect until Saturday, July 23, at 6:00 PM. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall being the primary threats.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.

Nelsonville City Park installs new playground equipment with funding from ODNR, NatureWorks grant program

The City of Nelsonville announces the installation of new playground equipment at the Nelsonville City Park located on Watkins Street. The new equipment was purchased with funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, NatureWorks grant program. The Nelsonville City Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in effect until Monday, July 18, 2022, at 08:00 AM.

* WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could produce in excess of 2 inches of rainfall in a short period of time.

* WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia.

* WHEN…Through Monday, July 18, 2022, at 08:00 AM.

* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
