The City of Nelsonville announces that the following City Council Committees will be holding meetings on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at City Hall.

  • 6:00PM, Police & Fire Committee – To discuss Police Department and Fire Department issues.
  • 6:20PM, Parks & Recreation Committee – To discuss the baseball program, fields and parks and recreation director, aquatic center pool repairs and aquatic center manger.
  • 6:40PM, Finance Committee – To discuss the City Budget with departments.
  • 7:00PM, Street Committee – To discuss the street sweeper and street projects.
  • 7:20PM, Utilities Committee – To discuss wastewater plant and water issues.
  • 7:40PM, Judiciary Committee – To discuss possible City Charter revision and title 31.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Athens County Thursday, 2/9/23, from 8 AM until 10 PM.

WHAT… Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

WHERE… Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia and much of West Virginia.

WHEN… Thursday, 2/9/23, from 8 AM until 10 PM.

IMPACTS… Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Nelsonville Fayette St and Monroe St intersection closed Mon, 2/6 to Fri 2/10/23, avoid area and use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that the intersection of Fayette Street and Monroe Street will be closed to traffic Monday, February 6, 2023, through Friday, February 10, 2023. The roadway is being closed so that crews can install a new manhole and sanitary sewer line. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

The City of Nelsonville announces that the intersection of Fayette Street and Monroe Street will be closed to traffic on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 7:00AM until 5:00PM. The roadway is being closed so that crews can layout and saw cut for the installation of new manhole and sanitary sewer line for a future project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Athens County in effect from 9PM, Monday, 1/30/23 until 12PM, Tuesday, 1/31/23.

WHAT…Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

WHERE…Portions of southeast Ohio and central, northern and western West Virginia.

WHEN…From 9PM, Monday, 1/30/23 until 12PM, Tuesday, 1/31/23.

IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
