Nelsonville boil order for Wend RD until further notice, unless notified otherwise, due to a mainline leak repair

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Wend Road.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

Nelsonville recycling dumpsters removed from the sewer plant this week due to construction, available at City Building

Recycling dumpsters will be removed next to the sewer plant this week due to construction taking place in that area. There has not been a date as to when they will be placed back at this site. The recycling dumpsters are still available at the City Building. The City of Nelsonville apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause the citizens who utilize these dumpsters for recycling.

Columbia Gas conducting GPS survey work in Nelsonville over next 1 to 2 months, they will not enter homes or businesses

Columbia Gas will be conducting GPS survey work in Nelsonville over the next month or two. A surveyor will trace the path of all gas mains and service lines up to the meter. They will record data using a GPS receiver mounted on a tripod. The surveyor will not need to enter homes or businesses. The data will help us provide better locating, maintenance and emergency response.

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous March 2020, Crimes of the Month

The following incidents has been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as the March 2020 Crimes of the Month.

The Athens Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to a series of crimes which occurred in the City. 

1.
On November 19, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Sol Restaurant and Bar which is located at 700 E. State St.  It was determined at approximately 5:00 AM on this date a male subject forcibly entered the business and stole several alcoholic beverages.  The suspect was wearing dark colored jogging style pants and a hooded sweatshirt.

On November 24, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a second complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Sol Restaurant and Bar.  It was determined a white male forcibly entered the business at approximately 6:20 AM and he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.  

2..  On November 24, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at O’Betty’s Red Hot restaurant which is located at 15 W. State St.  Between 3:00 AM and 6:30 AM on November 24, individual(s) forcibly entered the business and took an undisclosed amount of money. 

3.  On November 29, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Brenen’s Coffee Café which is located at 38 S. Court St.  The business had been forcibly entered by a white male on November 28, 2019 at approximately 8:30 PM and he stole items. 

4.  On December 8, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Fish N Stuff which is located at 4 Station St.  The business had been forcibly entered between 8:30 PM on December 7 and 11:30 AM on December 8.  The individual(s) stole an undisclosed amount of money.

5.  On December 15, 2019 at 5:20 AM, the Athens Police Department responded to an activated burglary alarm at the Smoke Zone Smoke Shop which is located at 80 N. Court St.  Officers discovered signs an individual(s) was attempting to forcibly enter the business but was not successful. 

6.  On December 15, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Silver Serpent which is located at 728 E. State St.  The business had been forcibly entered between 10 :00 PM on December 14 and 8:00 AM on December 15 and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen. 

7.  On December 15, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Hilltop Quick Change which is located at 161 N. Lancaster St.  The incident occurred between 3:00 PM on December 14 and noon on December 15. 

8.  On December 16, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at OMG! Rotisserie which is located at 139 Columbus Rd.  It appears the business was illegally entered, and items stolen between December 14 and December 16.

9.  On December 23, 2019, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Ambassador Laundry which is located at 15 W. Stimson Ave.  The business had been forcibly entered overnight and items stolen. 

10.  On January 9, 2020, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Campus Heights maintenance building which is located on Carriage Hill Dr.  The building was forcibly entered overnight, and items stolen.

11.  On January 13, 2020, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Marathon gas station which is located at 1 E. Stimson Ave.  The business had been forcibly entered at approximately 4:00 AM and items stolen. 

12.  On January 19, 2020, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Athens Uncorked which is located at 14 Station St.  The business had been forcibly entered overnight and items stolen.

13.  On January 27, 2020, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at the Little Fish Brewery which is located at 8675 Armitage Rd.  The business had been forcibly entered at approximately 5:00 AM and it is unknown if anything was stolen.

14.  On January 27, 2020, the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Clowes Auto Repair which is located at 312 E. State St.  The business had been forcibly entered overnight but it is unknown if anything was stolen.

15.  On February 18, 2020 the Athens Police Department received a complaint of a breaking and entering that occurred at Miller’s Chicken which is located at 235 W. State St.  The business had been forcibly entered overnight and items stolen.

The board has approved up to a $2000 reward for information related to this series of incidents. 

Over the course of the past four months the Athens Police Department has responded to various parts of the city regarding complaints of bicycles being stolen.  Presently, the police department has received 18 separate complaints of these types of theft.  The board has approved up to a $500 reward for information related to this series of incidents. 

The Nelsonville Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to crimes which occurred in the City. 

1.  The Nelsonville Police Department is investigating several thefts where star bricks have been stolen.  It was first noticed on January 6, 2020 on W. Washington St near the Nelsonville Public Library.  Additional bricks were stolen during the early morning hours of January 7, 2020 at the same location.  It was then reported bricks were stolen from Monroe St during the same time frame.  Based on the amount of bricks stolen, it is believed a motor vehicle must be involved to assist in transporting them.  The board has approved up to a $1000 reward for information related to this series of incidents.  

2.  On February 22, 2020 at approximately 5:00 AM, the Nelsonville Police Department responded to a reported stolen vehicle. A gold 1998 Geo Prism, bearing Ohio license plate HDQ6838, was stolen from the 600 block of Pleasantview Ave.  The vehicle had been left unattended running with the keys in it.  There was a Michigan Wolverines front license plate bracket and the bumper cover was secured with zip ties.  The board has approved up to a $1000 reward for information related to this incident.   

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a cash reward for information on the above crime if that information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible.  *Information on serious misdemeanors will be limited up to a $1000.00 cash reward.  **Any information that leads to the arrest of an individual responsible for graffiti, the board can authorize up to a $500.00 cash reward. Nelsonville Parks and Recreation Committee meeting Tue, 3/3/20, 7PM, the public is invited and encouraged to attend

The City of Nelsonville Parks and Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 7:00PM at City Hall.  The meeting is being held to discuss general information regarding girls’ softball and membership for the Parks and Recreation Board. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
