The City of Nelsonville Street Committee will hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting is being held to discuss street maintenance. The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special Council meeting on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 7:00 PM via a virtual meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to hold the final round of interviews for City Manager candidates. The interviews will take place during executive session and the final vote will take place in open session. City Council will also consider the following legislation:

  • A Resolution necessary pursuant to House Bill 481
  • Amendments to the 2020 appropriations ordinance
  • Ordinance to adopt water park fees
  • Ordinance declaring 253 Meyers Street dangerous and unsafe

NW Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8PM Wed, 6/10/2020. Take shelter if threatening weather approaches!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Athens County Until 800 PM.

At 643 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 9 miles southwest of Lancaster to near Piketon to 6 miles east of Rome, moving northeast at 60 mph.

HAZARD, 60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE, Radar indicated.

IMPACT, Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, and Buchtel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately.

Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

If on or near a lake or river, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!  Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

Nelsonville boil advisory SR691, Hocking Pkwy to Kimberly, and Kimberly, SR691 to Wolfe Bennett, until Wed, 6/10/20, 3PM

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil advisory for State Route 691 from Hocking Parkway to Kimberly Road, and Kimberly Road from State Route 691 to Wolfe Bennett Road. The boil advisory is being issued due to water service having been turned off for the area. The boil advisory will be in effect until Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 3:00PM, unless notified otherwise.

When a boil advisory is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

Nelsonville alley between Oak St and Elizabeth St closed, Wed, 6/10/20 to Fri, 6/19/20 7AM to 6PM, use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that the alley between Oak Street and Elizabeth Street will be closed, Wednesday, June 10, 2020 through Friday, June 19, 2020 weekdays only.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.

Nelsonville College St closed Elizabeth St to Oak St, Tue, 6/9/2020 to Fri, 6/12/2020, 7AM to 6PM, use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that College Street will be closed between Elizabeth Street and Oak Street, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 through Friday, June 12, 2020.  The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.
