Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm WARNING until 5PM, Tue, 8/25/202, seek shelter if threatening weather approaches!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Athens County including Nelsonville until 500 PM, Tuesday, 8/25/2020. At 427 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Nelsonville, moving southeast at 25 mph.

  • HAZARD – 60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.
  • SOURCE – Radar indicated.
  • IMPACT – Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include – Athens, Nelsonville, Chauncey, Buchtel, Amesville, Stroud Run State Park and The Plains.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Nelsonville boil order for Chestnut St from Burr Oak Blvd to E Canal St at the East “Y” until further notice

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Chestnut Street from Burr Oak Boulevard to East Canal Street at the East “Y” until further notice.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

The City of Nelsonville Street Committee held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting was held to discuss street issues relating to the sewer projects and other general street issues. Nelsonville Oak St and Lancaster St closed Clinton St to Madison St, Mon, 8/24 and Tue, 8/25, 20, 7AM to 5PM daily

The City of Nelsonville announces that Oak Street and Lancaster Street will be closed from Clinton Street to Madison Street, Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 7:00AM until 5:00PM daily.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.
