Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until Sat. 7/23/22, 2:30PM, seek shelter if threatening weather approaches!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Athens County until 2:30 PM. At 1:46 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Albany, moving east at 35 mph.

  HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

  SOURCE…Radar indicated.

  IMPACT…Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include… Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Coolville, Chauncey, and Buchtel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Watch until Sat, 7/23/22 at 6PM, stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions!

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens County in effect until Saturday, July 23, at 6:00 PM. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall being the primary threats.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in effect until Monday, July 18, 2022, at 08:00 AM.

* WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could produce in excess of 2 inches of rainfall in a short period of time.

* WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia.

* WHEN…Through Monday, July 18, 2022, at 08:00 AM.

* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
