Athens Co Flash Flood Watch until 10PM, Thu, 7/4/19, watch for rapidly changing weather conditions!

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for a portion of southeast Ohio, including Athens County until 10:00 PM Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Much of the area has already received 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, saturating the soil. Additional thunderstorms are forecast Wednesday and Thursday, which could lead to flash flooding.

Flooding of urban and other poor drainage areas, as well as creek and small stream flooding, is possible. People residing near creeks and small streams should monitor the latest forecasts, and prepare to take immediate action should flooding occur, or if a flash flood warning is issued.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Northern Athens County until 445 PM.

At 358 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Logan to near Nelsonville to near McArthur, moving northeast at 50 mph.

  •   HAZARD – 60 mph wind gusts.
  •   SOURCE – Radar indicated.
  •   IMPACT – Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel, Stockport, Jacksonville, Trimble.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Athens County until 1100 PM.

At 1009 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Circleville to 9 miles southeast of Kingston to 8 miles southeast of Chillicothe, moving east at 40 mph.

  • HAZARD – 60 mph wind gusts.
  • SOURCE – Radar indicated.
  • IMPACT – Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Shawnee, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, and ThePlains.

Athens Co Tornado WARNING until 230AM, Tue, 5/28/19, TAKE COVER NOW!!

Tornado Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for Athens County until 230 AM. At 142 AM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Lake Hope State Park, moving southeast at 40 mph.

 HAZARD – Tornado and quarter size hail.

 SOURCE – Radar indicated rotation.

 IMPACT – Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is likely.

This dangerous storm will be near Nelsonville and Buchtel around 150AM.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northwestern Athens County until 315 PM, Sunday, May 26, 2019.

At 218 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located over Hocking Hills State Park, or 10 miles southwest of Logan, moving east at 25 mph.

  • HAZARD – Two inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
  • SOURCE – Radar indicated.
  • IMPACT – People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble,

Amesville, Burr Oak State Park and The Plains.
