The City of Nelsonville is seeking to re-establish the Board of Parks and Recreation, as outlined in our City Charter.
The Board shall consist of five members. Members must be registered voters in the City of Nelsonville.
Per the City Charter, “It shall be the function of the Board of Parks and Recreation to recommend a program to Council for the operation of public parks, recreation facilities, and the acquisition, improvement, construction and maintenance of the parks, parkways, bikeways, and any other services related thereto. The Board’s functions and duties shall be advisory only.”
We are seeking letters of interest from potential Board Members. Letters may be submitted to the members of the Parks and Recreation Committee: Dereck Bowens, Margaret Gustafan, and Dottie Fromal.
The deadline for submitting a letter of interest is October 8, 2018.
There will be a public discussion and conversation regarding the Board appointments at the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting on October 16, 2018.The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The Nelsonville City Civil Service Commission will hold a meeting at Nelsonville City Hall on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 1:30 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss future Police Department staffing. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 9:00AM in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss;

The City of Nelsonville announces that Trick-Or-Treat; Beggar’s Night will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, from 5:30 to 6:30PM. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while driving in the Nelsonville area and watch for the children during this time period.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Athens County until 5:00PM, Wednesday, 9/26/2018. Soils across the area are nearly saturated due to previous rainfall. Additional showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rain, are expected to affect the area through Wednesday afternoon. Flash flooding of creeks, streams and low lying areas will be possible.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
The Nelsonville City Council will hold a regular Council meeting on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 7:00PM in Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The Nelsonville Parks and Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 7:00PM in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss the ongoing renovation project at Polley Field. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The City of Nelsonville will be having the First Annual Nelsonville Community Picnic on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Polley Field from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. There will be Fun, Games and FREE Food! Everyone is WELCOME to attend.
