Athens County is now under a level 2 snow emergency due to icy road conditions until further notice. Roadways are hazardous and very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.

The City of Nelsonville that the Historic Public Square will be closed on Friday, October 31, 2014, from 12:00 NOON until 9:30 PM for this month’s Final Friday event.
AEP power line work across US 33/US 50, Columbus Rd to Stimson Ave, Wed, 10/29, expect delays throughout the day
On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, American Electric Power (AEP) will be stringing new power lines across US 33/US 50 in the section from Columbus Road to Stimson Avenue.
There will be lane closures in this section of US 33/US 50. Motorists can expect delays throughout most of the morning and afternoon.
Nelsonville Harper St CLOSED Chestnut St to Poplar St, Sat, 10/18, 10AM to 3PM, please avoid this area.
The Nelsonville Street Department announces that Harper Street will be CLOSED between Chestnut Street and Poplar Street on Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church Fall Fellowship and Wagon Ride. The wagon ride will begin on Chestnut Street, South on DeSteiguer, East on Poplar, North on Second Street back to Chestnut. Citizens are urged to use caution while traveling in the area.
Nelsonville Square, W Columbus St, Rocky Boot Way, Fayette St CLOSED 8AM Fri, 10/17 to 12PM Sun, 10/19, avoid area
The City of Nelsonville will be closing the following streets starting at 8:00 AM Friday, October 17th through 12 Noon, Sunday, October 19th.
- Nelsonville Public Square
- West Columbus Street from September Street to Rocky Boot Way
- Rocky Boot Way from Columbus Street to Canal Street
- Fayette Street from Rocky Boot Way to Valkinburg Alley
These streets are being closed for the 18th Annual Ohio Smoked Meat and BBQ Festival being held in Nelsonville this weekend. Please watch for increased pedestrian traffic and use alternate routes to avoid the area.
