Nelsonville Public SQ CLOSED Mon, 9/11/23, 8AM to 12PM for 9-11 memorial service, memorial service starts at 8:46 AM

The Nelsonville Fire Department will be closing the Nelsonville Public Square on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM for a 9-11 memorial service. The memorial service will start at 8:46 AM, the time American Airlines Flight 11, flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Additional times will be commemorated at,

  • 9:03 AM, When United Airlines Flight 175 flew into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
  • 9:37 AM, When American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia.
  • 10:03 AM, When United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Local emergency responders, along with the citizens they protect, will take time out of their workday to commemorate the terrorist attacks in New York City, and Washington, D.C., and the bravery of the passengers that went down with the plane in Shanksville, PA on September 11, 2001.  The commemoration ceremonies will honor the 2,507 civilians, 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, 10 emergency medical workers, and 55 military service personnel who lost their lives, or gave their lives saving others.  Many first responders are still fighting for their lives, and others are losing their lives, because of their response to Ground Zero.  Each year we lose a few more.

Everyone is encouraged to take a few minutes and acknowledge the loss to the country and the victim’s families…mark the day, and remember…, so that WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

The City of Nelsonville announces that Pleasantview Avenue from Woodlane Drive to Diamond Street is closed to traffic until at least Monday, September 11, 2023, due to a broken 8-inch water line under Pleasantview Avenue. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Parade of The Hills Festival street closures begin Fri, 8/11/23, 8AM, use caution in the festival and consider using an alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that the Public Square will be closed on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 8:00 AM in preparation for The Plains Lions Club car show on Friday evening. The Public Square will remain closed until Monday, August 21, 2023, at 7:30 AM for The Parade of The Hills Festival.

The Parade of The Hills Festival street closures will begin on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 4:00 PM and remain closed through Monday, August 21, 2023, at 7:30 AM. The full street closures with NO limited access are due to pedestrian safety concerns from prior years.

The following streets will be closed to all traffic:

  • West Washington Street from Post Office to Fort Street
  • West Columbus Street from Library to 45 East Columbus Street
  • Rocky Boot Way from Public Square to alley by the Elks
  • Public Square

Please expect vendor, carnival rides and pedestrian traffic throughout the area. Please use caution in the area during the festival and please consider using an alternate route.

Nelsonville Woodlane Dr CLOSED, Pleasantview Ave to Sylvania Ave until further notice, due to trees on the roadway, avoid area and use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Woodlane Drive from Pleasantview Avenue to Sylvania Avenue is closed to traffic until further notice, due to trees down on the roadway. All houses on Woodlane Drive are accessible from the eastern or Buchtel side of Woodlane Drive. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville E Canal St and Monroe St intersection closed, 7AM, Mon, 7/10/23, to 5PM, Fri, 7/14/23, avoid area use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that the intersection of East Canal Street and Monroe Street will be closed to traffic 7:00 AM, Monday, July 10, 2023, through 5:00PM, Friday, July 14, 2023. Road closed signs will be placed at the Rocky Boots Way traffic light and West of McDonalds on Canal Street. Additionally, there will be a detour for through traffic with signs taking traffic on State Route 691 to Hocking Parkway to keep tractor trailers and other larger trucks off the residential streets. The roadway is being closed so that crews can replace a 6 inch water line. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.
