Nelsonville Canal St construction project week 10/20 to 10/24/2025 working on Burr Oak Blvd, East end of Canal St, and West end of Canal St, with streets becoming a single lane with flaggers directing traffic

The City of Nelsonville announces that the Canal Street construction project is nearing completion. During the week of 10/20 to 10/24/2025 will be working on Burr Oak Boulevard, East end of Canal Street, and the West end of Canal Street. The work in these areas will cause street to become a single lane with flaggers directing traffic.

Please avoid these areas and use alternate routes. We understand the inconvenience this project has caused, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this major construction project. For information call 740-568-3904.

Nelsonville Code Enforcement Office notifying residents and businesses that any illegally posted signs will be removed from utility poles, trees and public rights-of-way

As part of the City’s Code Enforcement Office’s ongoing efforts to enhance the appearance of our community, the City of Nelsonville is notifying residents and businesses that any illegally posted signs will be removed from utility poles, trees and public rights-of-way.

Illegal signs include, but are not limited to:

Nelsonville City Code 153.130, (full copy of code available at https://tinyurl.com/yfzh7x3b)

(C)   Public right-of-way. Except as specifically authorized herein, no sign of any type shall be placed within the right-of-way line of any public street or roadway except as provided by revocable license. (See R.C. § 723.121.)

(J)   Prohibited signs. Prohibited signs include the following:

  • Any sign creating a traffic hazard;
  • Signs which prevent free ingress or egress from any entrance, window, fire escape or attached to a standpipe;
  • Signs deemed by community standards to be obscene or which constitute a public nuisance;
  • Signs which contain lights that exceed ten candle power per square foot of sign;
  • Signs affixed to a tree or utility pole; and
  • Roof signs.

This notice is provided as a courtesy to residents and business owners giving all the opportunity to voluntarily remove any signs that may be in violation and avoid possible removal fees and fines.

The Code Enforcement Office will actively monitor the area to identify violations of this code and remove any illegal signs.

Nelsonville West Washington Street closed today, Thu, 10/16/2025, West of Saving Hardware entrance, until 5PM, Mon, 10/20/2025, avoid area and use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that West Washington Street will be closed immediately today Thursday, October 16, 2025, West of the entrance to Saving Hardware, until 5:00PM, Monday, October 20, 2025. The street closure is necessary for a sanitary sewer repair.

Nelsonville Public Square closed to traffic Sat, 10/18/025, 7AM until 6PM for community yard sale, avoid area and use an alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that the Public Square will be closed to traffic Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 7:00AM until 6:00PM for a community yard sale. There will be no parking allowed on the Public Square starting at 6:30AM, Saturday, October 18, 2025. Unauthorized cars will be towed away at the owner’s expense. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville boil order for Harper St from High St to end of Harper Hollow all of Ashton Ave, until 12PM, Sat, 10/18/2025, boil cooking and drinking water for 3 minutes before consuming

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Harper Street from High Street to the end of Harper Hollow and all of Ashton Avenue. This boil order is due to the repair of a water main break and repair. The boil order will be in effect for the area until 12:00PM, Saturday, October 18, 2025.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
