The City of Nelsonville Code Office wants to remind rental property owners that it is time for rental and vacant property registration for the 2026 calendar year.

Nelsonville City Code §155.03 (https://tinyurl.com/bdf6ay7a) requires an owner of rental property to register the property with the City Manager prior to occupancy by an application for rental property certificate. City ordinances require a thirty dollar ($30.00) annual fee, due by January 1 of each year, for each dwelling unit listed in this application. Failure to pay the fee shall result in a $100 penalty.

If a rental property is unoccupied for 90 days, it becomes a vacant property and should not be registered as a rental. City ordinance requires owners of vacant property to register such properties with the City Manager and complete an application for vacant property certificate. City Ordinance requires the owner of a vacant building to pay a fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) with the registration. Additionally, Nelsonville City Code §156.05 Vacant Building Plan, (https://tinyurl.com/yc4v8whu), requires the owner of a building or structure to be registered to submit a vacant building plan.

Applications for both certificates can be picked up at city hall in the code officer lobby, or they can be downloaded from the city website by going to https://www.cityofnelsonville.com/code-office/permits-variances. You can download a PDF version of the applications.
