The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County in effect from Monday, April 1, 2024, at 2:00 AM until Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 PM.

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia.

WHEN…From Monday, April 1, 2024, at 2:00 AM until Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 PM.

IMPACTS…Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. The prolonged heavy rain could also cause river flooding.

Nelsonville Burr Oak Blvd closed, E Canal St to Chestnut St, Mon, 4/1/24, 8AM until Thu, 4/4/24, 5PM, avoid this area, use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Burr Oak Boulevard between East Canal Street and Chestnut Street will be closed to traffic on Monday, April 1, 2024, at 8:00AM until Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 5:00PM. The roadway is being closed as part of a water line replacement project. This water line replacement project will result in additional Burr Oak Boulevard closures over the next two months. Additional closures will be announced as information becomes available. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville Bessemer Rd – Woodlane Dr to Elm St/ Buchtel reduced to one lane Tue, 3/25/24, 8:30AM until Fri, 3/29/24, 5PM, avoid area and use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Bessemer Road from Woodlane Drive to Elm Street in Buchtel will be reduced to one lane of traffic on Tuesday, March 25, 2024, at 8:30AM until Friday, March 29, 2024, at 5:00PM. Temporary traffic control lights will be located at either end of the area. The roadway is being closed to pour to concrete where the road was excavated for the water line replacement project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.
