Nelsonville boil order Grover-Madison to Frederick, Frederick, Frank, Edwards, John, Williams, Madison-Grover to City limits

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for the following areas. Grover Street from Madison Street to Frederick Street, Frederick Street, Frank Street, Edwards Street, John Street, Williams Street and Madison Street from Grover Street to the City limits.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

Nelsonville residential trash and recycling customers need to complete customer form by 3/26/21, new service starts 4/1/21

The City of Nelsonville is pleased to announce that starting on April 1, 2021 trash and recycling rates in the city will be $12.50 per month. Recycling will be at no additional cost if you sign up to receive recycling service. The trash and recycling hauler will be Athens Hocking Recycling and Refuse. All trash and recycling charges will be included on the Nelsonville resident’s utility bills. Nelsonville is no longer allowing trash and recycling trucks in the alleys. There will be no alley pickups after April 1, 2021 (limited exemptions will be granted per approval by the City Manager). All trash and recycling need to be placed curbside by 6 AM on scheduled pickup days. Large items are $5 per item and will need to be scheduled ahead of time for collection and marked with a sticker. Stickers can be obtained from the utility office.

All residential trash and recycling customers need to complete a customer form by March 26, 2021. The completed can be mailed to Nelsonville City Hall, 211 Lake Hope Drive, Nelsonville, OH 45764. The form can also be dropped in the water drop box located at City Hall. The form is available online at http://www.cityofnelsonville.com/trash. Nelsonville City building, and complex open to public for normal business, 3/15/21, 8AM COVID-19 precautions still apply

The City of Nelsonville is modifying City operations to normal operations. Starting today March 15, 2021 at 8:00 AM, the Nelsonville City building, and complex will be open to the public for normal business.  Nelsonville officials encourage visitors to continue to use COVID-19 precautions including wearing a mask, social distancing and frequent hand washing.

The City stands ready to continue to support the citizens of Nelsonville and thanks everyone for their patience and understanding during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Athens Co elevated wildfire risk afternoon and evening Sun, 3/14/2021, any open burning extremely dangerous!

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FOR ATHENS COUNTY, SUNDAY 3/14/2021 – The combination of low relative humidity, above normal temperatures, and gusty winds will create an elevated risk for wildfires this afternoon and evening.

Open burning of any type is considered extremely dangerous at this time. Be careful of heat and sparks while operating any equipment and avoid smoking in wildland areas.

Ohio law prohibits burning in the spring from 6AM to 6PM, March 1st through May 31st.
