Athens Co Heat Advisory extended until 8PM, Sat, 6/22/24, take precautions to stay safe from the heat

The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory in effect for our region until 8:00PM, Saturday, June 22, 2024.

WHAT…Heat index values up to the lower 100s.

WHERE…Portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and central, northern, southern, and western West Virginia.

WHEN…Extended until 8:00PM, Saturday, June 22, 2024.

IMPACTS…High temperatures and humidity may cause heat illnesses.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Heat stress increases with the number of consecutive hot days. While heat indices may be slightly lower this afternoon, values will rise a bit on Thursday, and a bit further on Friday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Nelsonville Fredrick St, Grover St to Edwards St closed 9AM, Wed, 6/19/24, until 9AM, Thu, 6/20/24, avoid area and use an alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Fredrick Street, from Grover Street to Edwards Street will be closed to traffic tomorrow at 9:00AM, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, until 9:00AM, Thursday, June 20, 2024. The closure is to prepare the water main tie over trench for paving. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Nelsonville boil order John St, Frank St, William St, Edwards St, Madison St from Cross to end of the line, Frederick St from Grover to John and Grover St from Madison to Frederick, until 12PM, Thu, 6/20/24, boil water for 3 minutes before consuming

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all customers on John Street, Frank Street, William Street, Edwards Street, Madison Street from Cross Street to the end of the line, Frederick Street from Grover Street to John Street and Grover Street from Madison Street to Frederick Street, until 12:00PM, Thursday, June 20, 2024. This boil order is necessary due to a tie-in for a new water line.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
