PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Nelsonville Auditor’s Office hosting FREE city-wide community shred day, Sat, 8/9/2025, 9AM until 12PM at City Hall

The City of Nelsonville Auditor’s Office is hosting a FREE city-wide community shred day, Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:00AM until 12:00PM at the City Hall parking lot.

Any Nelsonville resident, organization and business with proof of an address within the Nelsonville city limits, are welcome to bring a limit of 5 banker boxes or 5 equivalent size boxes of paper documents. The city will have a limited supply of banker boxes available for use on a first come first serve basis. Papers with paperclips and staples are acceptable, but binder clips must be removed. All drop offs should be in organized boxes; loose or bagged paper will not be accepted.

Nelsonville Scott St closed, Mon, 7/21/2025, until Fri, 7/25/2025, traffic detoured to Pleasantview Ave, avoid area, use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Scott Street will be closed, Monday, July 21, 2025, until Friday, July 25, 2025, for street curb replacement. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to Pleasantview Avenue and traffic controlled by traffic lights on Fort St and Pleasantview Avenue.

Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Athens Co Flood Watch until Sat, 7/19/25, at 2AM, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will lead to possibility of flash flooding

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County until Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 AM.

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

WHERE…Athens County and surrounding areas.

WHEN… Until Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 AM.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms over areas of saturated ground will lead to the possibility of flash flooding. Most areas will see 0.5 to 1.5 inches with some areas receiving more than 3 inches.
