The Nelsonville Water Department announces that a boil order has been issued for all of Mill Street until further notice.
Boil orders are put into place as a result of broken water lines or local flooding. When this happens, the drinking water may have been contaminated which can cause many illnesses.
Here are some tips to keep in mind, should you find yourself in this situation:

The Nelsonville Street Department announces that Dorr Run Road will be closed Thursday, July 14, 2016, 150 feet North of Lengyel Lane for culvert repair from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please use an alternate route.

The Nelsonville Aquatic Center has received a donation from the Knights of Pythias Valley Lodge No. 169, Nelsonville Ohio, for a free swim day on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 12 noon-7:00pm. This free swim day covers the first 50 people, so come early!

The Nelsonville Street Department announces that the intersection of College Street and Oak Street will be closed Monday, July 11, 2016 from 8:00am-3:00pm for pavement repairs. Please use an alternate route.

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a regular Council meeting on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The outdoor emergency warning sirens in Nelsonville, The Plains and New Marshfield will be tested at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, with a one minute sounding of the sirens. Local residents are asked not to call local emergency agencies inquiring why the sirens are sounding.
The outdoor warning siren system is normally tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 12:00 p.m. The monthly test will be cancelled if severe weather is threatening. If severe weather cancels the test it will be postponed until the next month. There are three conditions that result in the warning sirens being activated in Athens County.
When the outdoor warning sirens are sounded for an emergency they will be activated for five minutes. When you hear the warning sirens you should do the following;

The Thunder in the Valley Fireworks Spectacular in Nelsonville, Ohio is still scheduled to begin at 10 PM tonight July 4th. Please do not call Nelsonville Emergency telephone numbers to check on the status of the fireworks. If the fireworks are canceled due to weather, notification will be made to the public as soon as possible. Thank you for cooperation.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM 4AM MONDAY, 7/4 UNTIL 4AM TUESDAY, 7/5.
THE POSSIBILITY OF REPETITIVE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXIST DURING THE WATCH TIME FRAME. AS IS USUAL WITH SUMMER CONVECTION, THERE WILL BE LULLS IN THE PRECIPITATION. IF RAINS OF 2 TO 2.5 INCHES FALL IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS, SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS WOULD RISE QUICKLY.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
IF YOU LIVE ALONG A FLOOD PRONE SMALL CREEK, PLUS COUNTY AND STATE OFFICIALS, INCREASE YOUR WEATHER AWARENESS. MONITOR WATER LEVELS FREQUENTLY DURING ANY HEAVIER RAIN. BE PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK ACTION.
