Nelsonville water outage/boil order SR691-Bike Path to Kimberly RD, Kimberly RD-SR691 to Old Poston School, until Sat, 1/15/22, 3:30PM

The Nelsonville Water Department is working on a waterline leak that will cause a water outage for State Route 691 from the Bike Path to Kimberly Road and Kimberly Road from State Route 691 to the Old Poston School. Once the waterline is repaired a boil order will be in effect until Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 3:30PM, for the same area.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for Athens County in effect from Sunday, January 16, 10:00 AM until Monday, January 17, 10:00 AM.

  • WHAT…Heavy snow possible. Snow may change over to freezing rain during the afternoon Sunday. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches possible with up to 10 inches for higher elevations.
  • WHERE…Portions of southeast Ohio and central, northeast and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN…From Sunday, January 16, 10:00 AM until Monday, January 17, 10:00 AM.
  • IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Moderate to heavy snow will likely reduce visibilities at times. Along higher elevations, winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Nelsonville boil order for Pleasantview Ave from 607 Pleasantview Ave to Old Prison until Fri, 1/14/22, at 9AM

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Pleasantview Avenue from 607 Pleasantview Avenue to Old Prison until Friday, January 14, 2022, at 9:00AM. This boil order is due to a repair for a leak on the mainline.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

Very Cold Temperatures Could Lead to Icy Spots Tonight, be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions

Cold air moving into the area will lower temperatures below freezing tonight, and into the teens by Monday morning. As a result, wet spots and puddles on roads will likely freeze creating icy patches.


Be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions overnight through the Monday morning commute. Be especially cautious when driving over bridges and overpasses.
