UPDATE 01/18/2022 1:30PM: Main routes are clear, but county and township roads are still hazardous. Athens County will remain under a level two at this time. Please continue to use caution while traveling and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Level Two Snow Emergency: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.

Nelsonville City Council special meeting Wed, 1/19/22, 6:15PM, the public is invited and encouraged to attend

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 6:15 PM. The purpose of the meeting is to consider adoption of a resolution replacing the current recreation levy to be placed on the primary ballot, May 3, 2022. The subject matter of this Special Meeting is limited to consideration and adoption of this resolution.

Athens Co LEVEL 3 SNOW EMERGENCY, roads closed, no driving unless absolutely necessary or emergency exists!

1/17/2022, 6:05 AM – Athens County is under a LEVEL 3 SNOW EMERGENCY.  All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel, or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

Nelsonville boil order extended for Grover St, Edwards St, Williams St, John St, Frederick St, until Mon, 1/17/22, 12PM

The Nelsonville Water Department has extended the boil order for Grover Street, Edwards Street, Williams Street, John Street and Frederick Street until Monday, January 17, 2022, at 12:00PM. This boil order is due to a leak repair on the mainline.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three minutes before being consumed.

ATHENS CO WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2PM SUN 1/16/22 TO 1PM MON 1/17/22, HEAVY SNOW EXPECTED, TRAVEL DIFFICULT

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for Athens County from 2:00PM, Sunday, January 16, 2022, until 1:00PM, Monday, January 17, 2022.

  • WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches.
  • WHERE…Perry, Morgan, Athens, Jackson OH and Vinton Counties.
  • WHEN…From 2:00PM, Sunday, January 16, 2022, until 1:00PM, Monday, January 17, 2022.
  • IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
