The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for portions of southeast Ohio and West Virginia, including Athens County from 7AM, Thursday, February 3, 2022 through 1AM, Friday, February 4, 2022.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, larger creeks, and other low-lying and flood- prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for Athens County in effect from 1:00AM, Thursday, February 3, 2022, to 7:00AM, Friday, February 4, 2022.

  • WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of one quarter to one half of an inch.
  • WHERE…Perry, Morgan, Athens and Vinton Counties.
  • WHEN…From 1:00AM, Thursday, February 3, 2022, to 7:00AM, Friday, February 4, 2022.
  • IMPACTS…Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
