The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Athens County in effect from 7:00PM, Wednesday, 2/17/2021 until 5:00AM, Friday, 2/19/2021.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN – From 7:00PM, Wednesday, 2/17/2021 until 5:00AM, Friday, 2/19/2021.
  • IMPACTS – Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Rumpke trash pickup service in Nelsonville delayed due to continuing severe winter weather for the week of 2/15/2021

The City of Nelsonville announces that due to the continuing severe winter weather conditions Rumpke Waste and Recycling has been unable to begin normal trash pickup this week. On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the Rumpke drivers will start at 8:00 AM to work on picking up the Tuesday, and Wednesday stops and finish Thursday to get back on schedule. Be safe and stay warm. ATHENS CO WINTER STORM WATCH 7PM, WED, 2/17/21 UNTIL 7AM, FRI, 2/19/21, HEAVY SNOW OF 4 INCHES POSSIBLE, WATCH FORECASTS

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH from 7:00PM, Wednesday, 2/17/2021 until 7:00AM, Friday, 2/19/2021.

  • WHAT – Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of over 4 inches possible.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 7:00PM, Wednesday, 2/17/2021 until 7:00AM, Friday, 2/19/2021.
  • IMPACTS – Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Two rounds of wintry precipitation are expected. The first is forecast to occur Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The second is forecast to occur Thursday night.

Athens Co LEVEL 3 SNOW EMERGENCY, roads closed, no driving unless absolutely necessary or emergency exists!

2/15/2021, 7:20 PM – Athens County is under a LEVEL 3 SNOW EMERGENCY.  All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel, or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

Rumpke trash pickup service in Nelsonville delayed a day due to severe winter weather for the week of 2/15/2021

The City of Nelsonville announces that due to the severe winter weather conditions Rumpke Waste and Recycling is unable to complete normal trash pickup this week and will be running a day behind. Normal service for Nelsonville is Tuesday, Wednesday, and a few locations on Thursday.  The Rumpke plan is to bring their drivers in Tuesday at 7am to start operations.  Rumpke will service the Tuesday Routes on Wednesday, Wednesday Routes, on Thursday, and Thursday stops on Friday.  Be safe and stay warm. ATHENS CO ICE STORM WARNING UNTIL 10AM, TUE, 2/16/21, SIGNIFICANT ICING, POWER OUTAGES LIKELY, HAZARDOUS DRIVING!

The National Weather Service has issued an ICE STORM WARNING for Athens County until 10:00AM, Tuesday, 2/16/2021.

  • WHAT – Significant icing. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of one quarter to three tenths of an inch.
  • WHERE – Athens, Washington, Jackson OH and Vinton Counties.
  • WHEN – Until 10 AM Tuesday, 2/16/2021.
  • IMPACTS – Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS – Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages.
