High water has been reported on the following Athens County roads and State Routes by the Athens County Engineer’s Office and ODOT;

  • CR 1 – Kimberly Rd, near McKee Paving
  • CR 10 – Baker Rd, Marion Johnson Rd to Brown Rd
  • CR 10 – Baker Rd, SR681 to Swart Rd
  • CR 12 Washington Rd, US50 intersection near Diamond Stone Rd
  • CR 15 – Wood Rd, SR681 to Sandusky Rd
  • CR 17 – Fisher Rd, Oxley Rd to Harner Rd
  • CR 17 – Fisher Rd, Pleasant Hill Rd to Chase Rd
  • CR 18 – Potter Rd, SR550 to Emma Wyatt Rd
  • CR 19 – Hebbardsville Rd, Fisher Rd to Cameron Rd
  • CR 27 – Jacksonville Rd, Chapman Rd to Wemer Rd

ATHENS CO SMALL STREAM FLOOD WARNING, TODAY THU, 2/22/18 UNTIL 1:45PM, STAY OUT OF FLOOD WATERS

Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Small Streams in Athens County until 1:45 PM, today, Thursday, 2/22/18.

At 7:49 AM Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will cause flooding. Up to 1.50 inches of rain has already fallen.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low-lying spots.

ATHENS CO FLOOD WATCH 7PM, THU, 2/22/18 TO 7AM, SUN, 2/25/18, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS!

Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County from 7:00PM, Thursday, 2/22/18 until 7:00AM, Sunday, 2/25/18.

A cold front will stall over the area bringing several rounds of heavy rainfall starting late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Waves of significant precipitation will continue to move across the area into Sunday.

Flooding of poor drainage and low lying areas, especially along small streams, creeks and rivers, especially the Ohio and Muskingum rivers, is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

 

ATHENS CO WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM, SAT, 2/17/18, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS!

Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Athens County until 10:00 PM, Saturday, 2/17/18.

  • WHAT – Snow. Additional snow accumulations from one to three inches are expected.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN – Until 10 PM this evening.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Plan on slippery road conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving. ATHENS COUNTY LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY
February 17, 2018, 14:05 hours

Athens County is under a LEVEL 2 SNOW EMERGENCY.  Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.
