Nelsonville Chestnut St, open to one-way traffic W bound, E Canal St to Burr Oak Wed, 12/16/20, 8AM until spring 2021

The City of Nelsonville announces that Chestnut Street, from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard will open to one-way traffic on Wednesday December 16, 2020 at 8:00AM. The one-way traffic on Chestnut Street will be for west bound traffic from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard until the spring of 2021. Please drive carefully in this area.

Athens County WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect from 4AM Wednesday, 12/16/2020 until 4AM Thursday, 12/17/2020.

  • WHAT – Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio and central and northern West Virginia.
  • WHEN – From 4AM Wednesday to 4AM Thursday.
  • IMPACTS – Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Nelsonville boil advisory for W Franklin St from Madison St to Adams St, in effect until Thu, 12/17/2020, 3PM

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil advisory for West Franklin Street from Madison Street to Adams Street. The boil advisory is being issued due to a water line repair. The boil advisory will be in effect until Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3:00PM, unless notified otherwise.

When a boil advisory is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.

Nelsonville free pop-up COVID-19 community testing Tue, 12/15/2020, 10AM to 2PM, Nelsonville/ York High School, forms available online

The City of Nelsonville is hosting a free pop-up COVID-19 community testing event in partnership with Athens City/ County Health Department and the State of Ohio on Tuesday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nelsonville/ York High School, 1 Buckeye Drive in Nelsonville.

  • There are no criteria for testing and the event is open to anyone ages 2+.
  • Children 17 and under must have a guardian present.
  • You do NOT need to bring an insurance card.
  • Testing will be performed by the Ohio National Guard.
  • Walkers and bicyclists welcome.
  • Depending on volume, please expect delays.
  • Testing stations will be clearly marked on-site.
  • Masks are required, no-smoking please.
  • There will be an express lane for those with their forms already filled out. The forms are available online at https://cityofnelsonville.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/pop-up-covid-19-test-forms_12152020-nelsonville.pdf. Please print clearly!

The Athens City/ County Health Department with follow up with all positive tests from people who reside in Athens County, as they do with all local positive COVID-19 tests. Anyone who tests positive but lives outside of Athens County will get contacted by their local health department.

Testing for COVID-19 is critical to helping stop the spread of this virus. It saves lives. When we’re able to test more individuals in a community it allows us to quickly identify infected individuals and isolate them. In that way, it helps us contain and decrease the spread of illness so we can go on the offense against this virus.
