The City of Nelsonville announces that Chestnut Street, from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard will open to one-way traffic on Wednesday December 16, 2020 at 8:00AM. The one-way traffic on Chestnut Street will be for west bound traffic from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard until the spring of 2021. Please drive carefully in this area.
The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special Council meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 6:30 PM via a virtual meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss personnel issues and vote on a Police Department staffing and appropriation ordinance. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil advisory for West Franklin Street from Madison Street to Adams Street. The boil advisory is being issued due to a water line repair. The boil advisory will be in effect until Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3:00PM, unless notified otherwise.
When a boil advisory is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
The City of Nelsonville is hosting a free pop-up COVID-19 community testing event in partnership with Athens City/ County Health Department and the State of Ohio on Tuesday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nelsonville/ York High School, 1 Buckeye Drive in Nelsonville.
The Athens City/ County Health Department with follow up with all positive tests from people who reside in Athens County, as they do with all local positive COVID-19 tests. Anyone who tests positive but lives outside of Athens County will get contacted by their local health department.
Testing for COVID-19 is critical to helping stop the spread of this virus. It saves lives. When we’re able to test more individuals in a community it allows us to quickly identify infected individuals and isolate them. In that way, it helps us contain and decrease the spread of illness so we can go on the offense against this virus.
