The Athens County Engineer’s Office will be closing Athens County Road 1, Kimberly Road, from Township Road 566 Minkers Run Road to County Road 73, Wolfe Bennett Road in York Township. The roadway will be closed Monday, 4/23/2018 from 8:30AM to 2:30PM. The roadway is being closed for a culvert replacement project, weather permitting. Please avoid this area.
The City of Nelsonville will hold a public meeting on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 6:00PM. The meeting will be held at the Wesleyan Church Social Hall, 600 Chestnut Street. The meeting is being held to hear public input on a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant worth $500,000 the City and HAPCAP is working on. The neighborhood selected can be seen on the attached map and includes Polley Field.
The ideas for improvements to be made will come from the citizens of Nelsonville. This event is to hear their ideas! These could include, parks and recreation improvements, safety, curbs and sidewalks, street repair, blight removal, parking and accessibility.

The City of Nelsonville announces that street paving and pothole repair will resume on the following streets in Nelsonville during the week of April 16 – April 20, weather permitting;
- Franklin Street
- Back Street

- Washington and Clifford Street Intersection
- Washington and Adams Street Intersection

The City of Nelsonville announces that Rocky Boot Way from Canal Street to Fayette Street will be closed Tuesday, April 17, 2018 and Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 8:00AM until 4:00PM. The roadway is being closed so that R&R Pipeline and Columbia Gas can perform work. Please use an alternate route.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Small Streams in Western Athens County until 12:30 AM, Monday, 4/16/18.
At 6:24 PM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain has pushed northeast across the warning area with additional moderate to heavy rain expected through 9 PM. Some minor water issues are being reported in western Vinton County at this time.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Nelsonville, Chauncey, and Buchtel.

A cold front with thunderstorms and heavy rain will move through the area today and tonight. Heavy rainfall is expected across Northern West Virginia into Southeast Ohio. Flash flooding of small streams and creeks will be possible.
Rapid rises on streams and creeks may cause flooding of roads and lying areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

- Winds – Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
- Timing – 11AM today through 8PM
- Relative Humidity – As low as 22 percent.
- Temperatures – In the upper 70s to near 80.
- Impacts – Fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not permitted.

The Ohio Revised Code Section 1503.18 prohibits outdoor open burning and prescribed fires in the months of March, April, May, October, and November between 6am and 6pm. This ban includes burning of yard waste, trash, and debris, even in a proper burn barrel.
The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:00PM in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss appropriations. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
