The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM, at City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to,

  1. Under the Ohio Revised Code authorizing Council to enter into Executive Session regarding the Labor Agreement Contracts is O.R.C. 121.22(G)(4) (authorizing an executive session for the purpose of “preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees concerning their compensation or other terms and conditions of their employment.”)
  2. Under the Ohio Revised Code authorizing Council to enter into Executive Session regarding pending litigation against the City (including to consider settlement of such pending litigation) is O.R.C. 121.22(G)(3) (authorizing an executive session for the purpose of “conferences with an attorney for the public body concerning disputes involving the public body that are the subject of pending or imminent court action.”)
  3. Ordinance 10-24: Authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with Athens County 9-1-1.
  4. Ordinance 11-24: Authorizing the City Manager to enter into and negotiate a contract with Mr. Robe as City Attorney.
  5. Ordinance 12-24: Adopting the 2024 Staffing Ordinance.

Go into executive session per Ohio revised Code 121.22 G (1) To consider the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual, unless the public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual requests a public hearing.
  2. First reading of an ordinance accepting Garry Hunter’s Counteroffer to settle his lawsuit against the City of Nelsonville.
  3. First reading of an ordinance reprimanding a public official.
  4. First reading of an ordinance codifying Council’s January 22, 2024, voice vote to remove Jonathan Robe as law director.
  5. Second reading of Ordinance 03-24, an ordinance declaring city vehicles are for on duty business use only and requiring those vehicles to be parked on city property when not in use.

Nelsonville Pleasantview Ave CLOSED Fort St to Scott St today Fri, 1/26/24 for emergency sanitary sewer line repair, please avoid area and use alternate route

The City of Nelsonville announces that Pleasantview Avenue from Fort Street to Scott Street has been closed to traffic today Friday, January 26, 2024, due to an emergency sanitary sewer line repair. Crews are working on the issue and should have the roadway reopened this afternoon. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

Special Weather Statement – Patchy dense fog across portions of SE Ohio Thursday morning 1/25/24 and could impact the morning commute, with visibilities below a half mile possible, use caution if out driving

Special Weather Statement – Patchy dense fog developed across portions of Southeast Ohio Wednesday 1/24/24 evening. Fog is expected to persist overnight into Thursday 1/25/24 morning and could impact the Thursday morning commute. Visibilities below a half mile are possible at times. Motorists should use caution if out driving and be prepared for sudden changes in visibilities. Do not assume the road ahead is unobstructed. Use low beam headlights and leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and others. Additionally, given the recent snowmelt and rainfall, be alert for high water in the typical low-lying trouble spots.

Athens Co Flood Watch from 7PM, Wed, 1/24/24, until 4AM, Fri, 1/26/24, melting snow and rain may result in flooding

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Athens County in effect from Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 7:00 PM until Friday, January 26, 2024, at 4:00 AM.

WHAT – A combination of melting snow and rain may result in flooding of area creeks and streams. Ice jams on area rivers may also produce flooding.

WHERE – A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Gallia, Jackson OH, Lawrence OH, Meigs, Morgan, Vinton, and Washington.

WHEN – From Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 7:00 PM until Friday, January 26, 2024, at 4:00 AM.

IMPACTS – Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Rainfall will overspread the area Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday with 1 to 1.25 inches possible by Friday morning. In combination with melting snow, this will allow for strong rises on creeks and streams, particularly along Symmes Creek, Duck Creek, and the Little Muskingum River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS – Water levels around ice jams are notoriously unpredictable and can change quickly with little or no warning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Athens County in effect Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 1:00 AM until 10:00 AM.

WHAT – Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze.

WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.

WHEN – Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 1:00 AM until 10:00 AM.

IMPACTS – Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS – Any freezing rain should transition to all rain after 10 AM as temperatures rise above freezing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS – Slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.

Nelsonville water loss abatement program helps customers in a water leak emergency, up to $1,000.00 in water leak coverage for a $50 annual fee, signup now

The City of Nelsonville is happy to offer a two-tier water loss abatement program again this year to help customers in a water leak emergency. Up to $500.00 in water leak coverage for a $30.00 annual fee, or up to $1,000.00 in water leak coverage for a $50.00 annual fee.

The Nelsonville Water Loss Abatement Program allows customers in good standing (i.e., current on all bills and charges), who have enrolled and paid the annual fee, to receive credit on their water bills for water loss, due to leaks, that occur on the customer side of the meter.

The annual fee per account is due in the office before a policy can begin. The abatement policy will be in effect for a water loss due to a leak occurring during the following 12 months.

This program applies only to the account holder (the name on the account) of a residential 5/8″-1″   meter set.

New customers can sign up for the policy at a prorated rate and coverage. New owner/tenants will be prorated to calculate the fee required and the maximum coverage. The fees are non-transferrable, and no refunds will be generated upon finalizing an account.

Landowners may sign-up for the abatement program for rental properties. The coverage would be for each water tap and would follow the same requirements and policies.

All costs for repairs remain the responsibility of the Owner/Account Holder.

The customer is required to notify the utility office when a water leak is discovered and when repairs are completed. Credit cannot be used to cover the cost of filling a pool. The district retains the right to require proof of repairs such as receipts.
