The Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) has mailed approximately 636 Administrative Subpoena letters to Nelsonville taxpayers that did not respond to the Non-Filing Income Tax Notice that was sent in October, before the Subpoena was issued. Criminals stealing SNAP and cash assistance recipients benefit card information through skimming, take precautions to protect your information!

The Nelsonville Police Department has learned from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that criminals across the country are targeting SNAP and cash assistance recipients by stealing benefit card information through a scheme known as skimming. Skimming is where criminals attach a device to a legitimate card reader to collect credit card information. The Nelsonville Police Department currently has not had any reports on this issue but wanted to make sure that the public is aware of the issue.

The Athens County Department of Job and Family Services customers experiencing skimmed benefits or loss of benefits can stop at any of the agency’s locations for paperwork to assist in reporting and recovering the benefits.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services recommend you immediately—and regularly—change your PIN by going to your SNAP or cash assistance benefits page, or by calling 1-866-386-3071 for SNAP and 1-866-320-8822 for cash cards. Follow the prompts to change your PIN. The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Walnut Street from Second Street to Burr Oak Boulevard until 12:00PM, Saturday, November 2, 2024. This boil order is necessary due to a water line repair.

When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.

The City of Nelsonville Street Department will start curbside leaf pick-up on Monday, November 4, 2024, and continue on the following days in November and December.

  • November –
    • Monday – 4th, Wednesday – 6th, Friday – 8th, Tuesday – 12th, Thursday – 14th, Monday – 18th, Wednesday – 20th, Friday – 22nd, Tuesday – 26th
  • December –
    • Monday – 2nd, Wednesday – 4th, Friday – 6th

Leaf pick-up will take place each day from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM, depending on the weather conditions.

Follow these steps for curbside leaf pick-up.

  1. Rake leaves to curbside, DO NOT include branches, sticks, grass clippings or tall grass. These can clog and damage the equipment and cause delays. City crews will not be raking any leaves.
  2. DO NOT rake leaves into the street. This can clog storm drains.
  3. DO NOT pile leaves around fire hydrants, street signs or utility poles.
  4. DO NOT PARK in front of leaf piles on pick-up days.
  5. When your leaves are curbside and ready, schedule curbside leaf pick-up by using Nelsonville’s “TextMyGov, text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 and a series of texts will guide you through the reporting process, or call, 740-753-1314, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
