Nelsonville water system 10-inch water main leak on W Columbus St causing low water pressure until the water main is repaired

The Nelsonville Water Department is working on a 10-inch water main leak on West Columbus Street. As part of the repair efforts workers will need to shut off one of the city’s water reservoirs. Nelsonville water system customers may experience low water pressure until the water main is repaired, and the water reservoir is reopened.

Please do not call the Nelsonville water office about this low water pressure. Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Athens County Flood Warning until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025. Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads!

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Athens County and surrounding areas until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

WHERE…A portion of southeast Ohio, including the following counties, Athens, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Perry and Vinton.

WHEN…Until 5:00AM, Sunday, May 4, 2025.

IMPACTS…Flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS – At 1050 PM, emergency management reported several roads across the area were flooded from prior excessive rainfall this evening. Flooding is already occurring. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has fallen, with up to half an inch of additional rainfall expected overnight.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble, and Amesville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

Athens Co Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 7PM, Tue, 5/1/2025, watch for rapidly changing weather conditions

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens County in effect until 7:00PM, Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for Severe Thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe Thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce Tornadoes.
