Athens County is under a LEVEL 1 SNOW EMERGENCY. Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.

The City of Nelsonville Planning and Development Committee will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 7:30 PM at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss plans for a Canal Street cleanup and gateways at each end of Canal Street. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The Nelsonville Neighborhood Watch will meet Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at 6:00 PM at Nelsonville City Hall. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The Nelsonville City Council will hold a special Council meeting on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers at City Hall. The purpose of this meeting is the consideration of legislation and possible executive session concerning the opioid litigation, gun legislation, USDA water and sewer legislation and personnel. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The City of Nelsonville Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 7:00PM at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss City finances. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Athens County until 745AM, Thursday 2/13/2020.
At 1046 PM, Doppler radar indicated prolonged rainfall across the area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warning area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen, and rain will continue off and on during the overnight.
Creeks and streams will fill and could come out of their banks. Low lying areas will flood. Road closures are possible.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Albany, Chauncey, Buchtel, and Amesville.
County emergency management is reporting that low spots are already beginning to flood across the warned area.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

The City of Nelsonville announces that all City offices will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2020 in observance of the Presidents Day Holiday. City offices will re-open for business on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 for regular business hours.
