THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL 9:00 PM, TUESDAY, 8/25/2020.

REMEMBER, A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

Nelsonville boil order for Chestnut St from Burr Oak Blvd to E Canal St at the East “Y” until further notice

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for Chestnut Street from Burr Oak Boulevard to East Canal Street at the East “Y” until further notice.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, August 24, 2020 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be live streamed from the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page, (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity). The City of Nelsonville Street Committee held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting was held to discuss street issues relating to the sewer projects and other general street issues. The meeting was streamed on the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity).

Nelsonville Oak St and Lancaster St closed Clinton St to Madison St, Mon, 8/24 and Tue, 8/25, 20, 7AM to 5PM daily

The City of Nelsonville announces that Oak Street and Lancaster Street will be closed from Clinton Street to Madison Street, Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 7:00AM until 5:00PM daily.  The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.  Please use an alternate route.

The Planning Commission of the City of Nelsonville has One (1) open position available.

  • The Planning Commission shall consist of five (5) members serving overlapping terms of five (5) years each, provided that initial appointments under this Charter shall be as follows: One for a term of one (1) year, one for a term of two (2) years, one for a term of three (3) years, one for a term of four (4) years, and one for a term of five (5) years.
  • The Council, by ordinance or resolution, shall designate the Planning Commission to serve as the platting commission of the City, and the Commission shall have control of platting and shall recommend regulations to Council covering the platting of all lands within the City.
  • The Planning Commission shall recommend to Council, for the Council’s adoption with or without revisions thereto, a comprehensive general plan or revisions thereto for the physical development of the City, which shall include, but not be limited to:
    • The location of public ways, property, bridges, utilities, buildings, parks, playgrounds, bikeways, and recreation areas.
    • The comprehensive general plan shall show the existing school locations in the City and shall show the projected locations of all new schools as determined by the governing board of the appropriate school district.
  • The Planning Commission shall prepare and recommend to Council such ordinances and resolutions as will promote the general welfare of the City and its inhabitants; recommend for the Council’s approval a base map to be titled the “Official Map of the City of Nelsonville”; and exercise control over the subdivision of lands and the improvement or development thereof as authorized by the City’s ordinances and resolutions.
  • In the performance of its functions, the Planning Commission may enter upon any land in a lawful manner to make examinations and surveys, and place and maintain necessary monuments and markers thereon.
  • The Planning Commission shall have such other powers and perform such other duties and functions as provided by the City’s ordinances and resolutions.
