The Nelsonville City Civil Service Commission will hold a meeting at Nelsonville City Hall on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm. The meeting is to discuss testing in order to build an eligibility list for the Police Department. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The following incident has been listed by Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous as a January, 2017 Crime of the Month. The Athens Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to criminal acts which occurred within the City.
On November 17, 2016, the Athens Police Department responded to the victim’s residence where he provided details of being robbed. On this date near 3:30 AM, the victim stated he was walking around the uptown area (S Court St) when he was approached by two black males, one wearing a red jacket and the other one wearing a gray one. The victim stated one of the black males brandished a pocket knife and ordered him to provide them his valuables. The victim fled the area after being physically assaulted.
On December 20, 2016, the Athens Police Department responded to the Dollar General located at 1016 E. State St. On this date at approximately 12:00 AM, an unknown white male forcibly entered the store and took an undisclosed amount of money.
The Nelsonville Police Department is requesting your information pertaining to a criminal act which occurred within the City.
On January 11, 2017 at approximately 11:30 PM, the Nelsonville Police Department responded to the Victorian Village apartment complex which is located at 325 S. Harper St. On this date, two white males were observed carrying a coin machine out of the laundry room at the complex. Once outside the building, the males dropped the coin machine which attracted the attention of people in the complex. The males quickly placed the coin machine in the trunk of a red vehicle and fled the area.
Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a $2,000.00 cash reward for information on the above crimes if that information leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible. *Information on serious misdemeanors will be limited to a $1000.00 cash reward. **Any information that leads to the arrest of an individual responsible for graffiti, the board can authorize up to a $500.00 cash reward. The City of Nelsonville Water Department has canceled the boil order for the entire City and the Village of Buchtel and York Township water customers. We would like to thank those affected by this incident for their patience and understanding.

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for the entire City and the Village of Buchtel and York Township water customers until further notice. Nelsonville Water Department crews will be flushing fire hydrants beginning tonight, January 13, 2017 thru Sunday, January 15, 2017. Areas that are serviced by the Nelsonville water system may experience discolored water. If you experience discolored water, allow water to run until it clears. Boil orders are put into place as a result of broken water lines or local flooding. When this happens, the drinking water may have been contaminated which can cause many illnesses.
