The Nelsonville Police Department would like to make all drivers aware of a traffic pattern change at the intersection of State Route 691 and East Canal Street. Effective immediately, NO RIGHT TURN ON A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL WILL BE ALLOWED FOR VEHICLES TRAVLEING;
This change has been made for safety reasons due to difficult visibility at the intersection.

The Thunder in the Valley Fireworks Spectacular in Nelsonville, Ohio is scheduled to begin at 10 PM tonight July 4th. Please do not call Nelsonville Emergency telephone numbers to check on the status of the fireworks. If the fireworks are canceled due to weather, notification will be made to the public as soon as possible.
While entering and exiting Hocking College for the fireworks follow all directions by Law Enforcement personnel to ensure the easiest traffic movement for all spectators. Thank you for cooperation.

The outdoor emergency warning sirens in Nelsonville, The Plains and New Marshfield will be tested at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, with a one minute sounding of the sirens. Residents are asked not to call local emergency agencies inquiring why the sirens are sounding.
The outdoor warning siren system is normally tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 12:00 p.m. The monthly test will be cancelled if severe weather is threatening. If severe weather cancels the test it will be postponed until the next month. There are three conditions that result in the warning sirens being activated in Athens County.
When the outdoor warning sirens are sounded for an emergency they will be activated for five minutes. When you hear the warning sirens you should do the following;

The Nelsonville Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 2017 at 7:30PM at City Hall. The meeting is being held to discuss a variance for a non-conforming use at 774 Chestnut Street. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for High Street from Grosvenor Street to 517 High Street until further notice.
Boil orders are put into place as a result of broken water lines or local flooding. When this happens, the drinking water may have been contaminated which can cause many illnesses.

Due to the July 4th Holiday, the Nelsonville Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 6:30PM has been moved to Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 6:30PM at Nelsonville City Hall. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Athens County until 9:00PM, Friday, 6/23/17.
At 459 PM, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling across the warned area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Athens, Nelsonville, Glouster, Chauncey, Buchtel and Jacksonville.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
