Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, September 14, 2020 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be live streamed from the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page, (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity). Citizens comments and business and organizational comments may be made online. The public is invited and encouraged to attend virtually online.

Nelsonville boil order W Franklin St from Pine Grove Dr to Adams St, Mound St, Koker LN, Heskett LN until further notice

The Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for West Franklin Street between Pine Grove Drive to Adams Street, Mound Street, Koker Lane and Heskett Lane until further notice.

The Boil Order has been issued due to a repair for a leak on the mainline. When a boil order is in effect, we ask those affected to boil their drinking and cooking water for three minutes before being consumed.

This Boil Order is in effect until further notice, unless notified otherwise.

The City of Nelsonville Planning and Development Committee held a virtual meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 7:00PM. The meeting was held to discuss signage as you enter the city and a proposed new business on Canal Street. Nelsonville Public Square CLOSED, Fri, 9/11/2020, 8AM to 12PM for 9/11 memorial service, open to the public

The Nelsonville Fire Department will be closing the Nelsonville Public Square on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM for a 9-11 memorial service. The memorial service will start at 8:46 AM, the time American Airlines Flight 11, flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Additional times will be commemorated at,

  • 9:03 AM, When United Airlines Flight 175 flew into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
  • 9:37 AM, When American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia.
  • 10:03 AM, When United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Local emergency responders, along with the citizens they protect, will take time out of their work day to commemorate the terrorist attacks in New York City, and Washington, D.C., and the bravery of the passengers that went down with the plane in Shanksville, PA on September 11, 2001.  The commemoration ceremonies will honor the 2,507 civilians, 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, 10 emergency medical workers, and 55 military service personnel who lost their lives, or gave their lives saving others.  Many first responders are still fighting for their lives, and others are losing their lives, because of their response to Ground Zero.  Each year we lose a few more.

Everyone is encouraged to take a few minutes and acknowledge the loss to the country and the victim’s families…mark the day, and remember…, so that WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

Labor Day: Monday, Sep. 7, 2020

Service will NOT occur on Monday, Sept. 7.

Service will be delayed one day during the rest of the week (Monday will move to Tuesday; Tuesday will move to Wednesday; Wednesday will move to Thursday; Thursday will move to Friday, and Friday will move to Saturday). Rumpke will return to its regular collection schedule the following week. 

Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 12, 2020

No delays.      

Veteran’s Day: Monday, Nov. 11, 2020

No delays. 

Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020

Customers with service on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will NOT be affected by Thanksgiving.

Service will NOT occur on Thursday, Nov. 26, and service will be delayed one day for the rest of the week (e.g. Thursday will move to Friday, and Friday will move to Saturday). Rumpke will return to its regular collection schedule the following week. 

Christmas Day: Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 

Customers serviced on Monday through Thursday will NOT be affected by Christmas Day.

Service will NOT occur on Friday, December 25. Service will be delayed one day (Friday will move to Saturday).

The Municipal Civil Service Commission of the City of Nelsonville has one (1) open position available.

  • The Commission is composed of three (3) persons who are appointed by council. 
  • The commission serves in the manner provided for in Section 124.40 of the Ohio Revised Code and rules and regulations of the Nelsonville Municipal Civil Service Commission relative to civil service in the City of Nelsonville. 
  • For a term of one (1) year.   
  • The commission meets on an as needed basis.
