Due to social distancing recommendations on preventing the spread of the COVID-19, Nelsonville City Council will be meeting in regular session Monday, January 11, 2021 at 7PM via a virtual meeting. The public may not attend the meeting in person. The meeting will be live streamed from the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page, (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity). Citizens comments and business and organizational comments may be made online. The public is invited and encouraged to attend virtually online.

ATHENS CO WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5AM TO 10AM, FRI 1/1/21, FREEZING RAIN EXPECTED, USE CAUTION TRAVELING!

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Athens County in effect from 5:00AM until 10:00AM, Friday, 1/1/2021.

  • WHAT – Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of a few hundredths of an inch.
  • WHERE – Portions of southeast Ohio.
  • WHEN – From 5 AM to 10 AM Friday, 1/1/2021.
  • IMPACTS – Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS – A period of freezing rain will occur before temperatures warm and change precipitation over to rain after 10AM Friday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.

12/25/2020: MELTED SNOW AND SLUSH ACROSS AREA ROADS WILL CAUSE SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS TONIGHT, USE CAUTION IF YOU TRAVEL

12/25/202, SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Melted snowfall and slush across many area roadways will quickly refreeze this evening and overnight. This will result in areas of slick and icy roadways for much of the area, especially on any untreated and secondary roads. In addition, periods of light snowfall this evening will reduce visibility at times making traveling even more treacherous.

The slick and icy areas will be hard to see, so exercise extreme caution if you must travel tonight. If traveling, slow down and allow extra driving distance between you and other vehicles.

The City of Nelsonville announces that all City offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24, 2020 and Friday, December 25, 2020 in observance of the Christmas Holiday. City offices will re-open for business on Monday, December 28, 2020 for regular business hours. We wish everyone a Safe and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
