Nelsonville needs help with flood pictures of Nelsonville, specifically on the Canal Street side of the tracks

Hi folks, I have some bad news and need your help. The EPA is trying to force new flood maps on Nelsonville, and they are just as bad as the 2013 maps. I need help with flood pictures in Nelsonville, specifically on the Canal Street side of the tracks. I know there is an old one of a fire truck with water up to the tail board from the 60s/70s. What I am trying to prove or disprove is flooding on the Canal Street side of the tracks. My understanding is 1907 was the last flood in town from the river. The more recent high-water events have been storm water backed up. Please correct me if I am wrong and fill in all the pieces I am missing.

The Nelsonville City Council held a special meeting on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 7:30 PM. The purpose of the meeting was to,

  • Swear in newly elected council members
  • Accept 192 Fayette Street, Nelsonville, Ohio 45764 as a gift to be turned into a green space and park
  • Authorize the city manager to enter into a contract with Cochran Wrecking and Salvage to demolish the structure at 192 Fayette Street

City of Nelsonville announces winning bid for Jefferson Street property by Brad Case for $10,299.00 plus closing cost

The City of Nelsonville announces the winning sealed bid on property located at 126 Jefferson Street Nelsonville, Ohio. This property was deemed unnecessary for public use. Bids for the property were accepted from November 12, 2021 until December 3, 2021. The City received three bids for the property. The winning bid was placed by Brad Case for $10,299.00 plus closing cost with the property being sold as is.

Nelsonville water main break causing low water pressure to NE Nelsonville and the Village of Buchtel until repairs completed

The City of Nelsonville is currently working on a water main break located on High Street. The repair is causing low water pressure on Burr Oak Boulevard, Crihfield Drive, Sylvania Avenue, Woodlane Drive, Bessemer Road, and the Village of Buchtel until the water line is repaired. A boil order may be issued once repairs are complete.

Nelsonville Division of Fire annual Pancake Breakfast Sat, 12/4/21, 7AM to 12noon, at Nelsonville Elks Lodge, adults $6, children under 3 free

The Nelsonville Division of Fire will be holding their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, December 4, 2021. The breakfast will be held at the Nelsonville Elks Lodge located at 53 Rock Boot Way, in Nelsonville. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The price for breakfast is $6.00 for adults and children under 3 are free. For delivery or pickup orders please call 740-856-7116 or 740-856-7140.

The public is encouraged to come out and eat a good breakfast before enjoying their day long activities in Nelsonville. Come out and support your local fire department.

The Baileys Trail System has a new sign at the Doanville-York Trailhead, https://goo.gl/maps/vansysFdjk7hTie96. The City of Nelsonville donated the bricks for the base of the new trailhead sign. These bricks include Star Bricks and pavers from the lower end of Chestnut Street.

The Baileys Trail System is in the Appalachian foothills of Southeast Ohio, the Baileys will eventually offer 88 miles of trails for every level of rider. Phase 3 construction was completed in Fall 2021 with 31 total miles now on the ground. The Baileys is built for all skill levels of cyclists, hikers, runners, adaptive athletes, hunters, and nature enthusiasts. Two trailheads are currently open–the Chauncey-Dover Park Trailhead and the Doanville-York Trailhead. This system currently has direct community connections to Chauncey and Doanville, and future connections are planned to Nelsonville and Buchtel.

The Baileys Trail System is managed by the Outdoor Recreation Council of Appalachia through an agreement with the Wayne National Forest.
